Q: I'm planning on replacing Grundfos UP 15-18SU with the UP 15-29SUC. Is this pump the same size, where I can remove the old and replace w/new?

I recommend asking the vendor because I don't remember the exact model of the old pump. I think it was UP 15-18su. I don't remember the vendor either, but the vendor confirmed UP15-29SUC was the replacement by the next day. In my case, the new pump replaced the old pump with No modifications and it took 15-20 minutes for the entire process.

Q: Has Grundfos corrected the plastic timer tine crumbling problem on the new model up15-29 SUC (p/n 59896777) ?

Our 4 year old pump just failed due to this problem, the electronics in the timer turned to dust.

Q: Does the pump come with the bronze union set to connect to 1/2" copper pipe? If not, where is it available?

Mine did not come with the union. But standard unions and those with a check valve should be available from most suppliers. They have standard part numbers and descriptions. Keep checking the supplier info at their websites. (Mine was a simple replacement for the same unit.)

Q: I am going to use it to boost the presure. Does it start automatically when I use water?

you have to set the timer (built on pump) to circulate hot water through the system;
