Not much better than my single-stage blower. Disappointing
This is my first 2-stage blower. I've had a number of single stage models including several Toro and, recently, a cheap MTD that I bought two years ago. Since I was getting tired of pushing the single stage blower over and over through the thick snow deposited at the end of the driveway by the city snowplow, I decided to invest in a 2-stage blower. After reading several reviews, I chose the Power Smart DB7659A.The blower came on a crate and inside a sturdy thick cardboard box. It was fairly easy to unload. I kept it on the crate to assemble, which, I believe, made it a little easier. I checked all of the cables and belts. All seemed fine except the auger cable seemed a little loose. I tightened it by using the adjustable tension bracket. It is helpful to loosen or remove the bolts to the upper handle assembly on the auger side to do this. That way you will have more play in the cable to make the adjustments.I added the appropriate oil and put fresh gas (with added stabilizer) into the gasoline compartment. It took 5-6 primer pumps and then it started right up. It sounded good. All of the forward and reverse drives worked fine. The auger seemed to turn fine.It sat for several weeks before the first snowstorms arrived. I have used this blower twice. The first storm dumped about 6-7 inches of fluffy powder on the driveway. The second storm dumped about 4-5 inches of very heavy, wet snow.I was looking forward to finally trying this beast out. It started right up. My driveway is about 35 feet wide. I moved the discharge chute all the way to the left and started a run right down the middle of the driveway through the powder snow. The first thing I noticed was that the snow leaving the chute didn't make it beyond the outer left edge of the driveway about 17 feet away. In fact, even with the directional tip opened all the way, the snow would only be thrown about 6-8 feet and deposited on the driveway. That was VERY disappointing. My little single stage MTD with the paddles also wouldn't throw it far enough with the chute turned all the way, but it would get the snow a good 10-12 feet. I was hoping this big 2-stager would do better.I WAS able to eventually clear the driveway. When I got to the thicker deposited snow, the Power Smart's engine started straining just a little but it threw the snow that 6-8 feet which eventually made it off the driveway and onto the lawn on the side. Now to the second storm with the 4 inches of heavy, wet snow - OH, MY! This was a disaster. I used the same clearing strategy as before (and as I have used with all of my single stage blowers). With the chute all the way left, I made my way down the middle of the driveway. This time the blower only threw the snow about 3-4 feet from the end of the chute. I made two runs up and down the driveway and decided my clearing strategy just wouldn't work. From the cleared area in the middle of the driveway, I turned the blower and straightened the chute and blew the snow directly ahead to the left side of the driveway. Even with the straight chute the snow would only blow about 4 feet from the chute - which meant it landed in front of the blower and had to be RE-BLOWN until it reached the end of the driveway. The blower strained quite a bit through the wet thick part of the snow.I thought that something must be amiss with the blower, so I turned it off and took off the belt cover. The belts seemed aligned and in good condition. I again adjusted the auger tension by moving the cable up a couple of holes on the tension bracket. Now when I started the engine, the auger sometimes ever so slightly turned even without it being engaged. That meant it was as tight as I could make it without over-doing it. But it didn't help much. I was still getting only a 4-5 foot throw. Not only that, but even on medium speed, the snow was being pushed to the left and right of the blower and making trails of snow on the sides. After blowing the driveway, it looked awful with all of those trails of snow everywhere.Another problem I had was when I tackled the snow deposited at the end of the driveway. It was very wet - almost to a slush consistency. I plowed threw it a few times, but then noticed that the power drive wouldn't work. I pressed on the drive handle and the blower would just sit there. At first, I thought the drive system broke, but after a few minutes, it would engage again. I then figured that the drive belt must have gotten wet while plowing through the thick, wet snow and was SLIPPING. I tried a few more times plowing through the wet snow, but after only a couple of passes, the same thing would happen and the drive would stop. I ended up shoveling the end of the driveway by hand. The problems I had were not common with all 2-stage blowers. My neighbors on either side of me had 2-stage blowers - one was a Toro and the other was an off-brand model. They didn't have ANY problem. The snow was shooting a good 15 feet from the end of the chutes. There were no snow trails from the sides of the blowers. They cleared the snow from the end of the driveways and by the mailboxes without any problem. Here I was with a mess of a driveway and shoveling the snow from the end of the driveway by hand because my Power Smart drive system failed. It was very embarrassing. The Power Smart looks good. It starts up fine. It eventually cleared most of the driveway. But, overall, it has a LOT of issues and, honestly, was really no better than my $100 MTD single-stage paddle blower.I cannot give this blower a good recommendation.

1st review. Not all about product as it has not snowed yet.
After years of living in the northeast and dealing with snow, I finally decided it was time to invest in my own gas powered 2 stage snow blower. I have about 1000 feet of single lane driveway with a very good incline. I did a lot of research and shopping. This model had the best price, and reviews. I'm only giving a 3 stars for now based on the and delivery experience. NOT THE PRODUCT at this time. I will give another review after real use. The shipping company CUSTCO was unclear on the delivery requirements and the amazon description did not specify certain points. First they require an appointment for delivery as this is a freight item. So I was proactive and contacted them immediately only to be told the local delivery company would be contacting me at the number I had given which had been confirmed at the time of my call. I was told I would get a call on the Monday after I placed the order. Monday came and went and no call. On Tuesday I called again and now they said they had called (Highly Unlikely). Anyway at that point they immediately scheduled an appointment for the next day and I had someone at home to sign for it. The next day I get a call from the truck driver saying he is on his way and that he has a large trailer and asked if there were any problems with getting his truck in or out. I said I live in a residential community on a dead end with a colder sack, so I did not feel he could turn around on my road he would have back in or out. So a few hours later I called home to find out the driver could not get on my road at all, just the very beginning of it which is a good 500 feet from my driveway. And that he needed help hauling this 154lb box to my driveway (not to my door). I was furious at this point since the person at home had to drag this thing down the road and up my steeply inclined driveway. I called the shipping company immediately to lay out a hefty complaint. First they told me the shipping included with this item was only to the street in front of the house (none of this is explained on the amazon site, or the Amerisun company website. The customer service agent completely understood my concern and agreed this should be explained clearly and they would try to get this cleared up. I also called the Amerisun customer service and again they were very understanding and would pass on the concern as they had received similar complaints. SO BE AWARE!!! You may have difficulty getting them to delivery this right to your house. Make sure all these points are discussed with the freight company before your stuck with no way to get it to your door (or garage in my case)Now about the first impressions of the product. I put it together today very easily. It fired right up and let me say the electric start is one of the key deciding features for me. I have used gas snow blowers in the past, but I always had a hard time getting them going especially in the cold. I am getting older and this feature will be greatly appreciated. I don't have a permanent storage space in the garage for this so it well be subjected to cold temperatures and must start up in that environment. All other features worked just as advertised. I will give one suggestion regarding the chute direction knob. Tighten down the assembled nuts on the turning mechanism or the chute will spin on it's own when the engine is running. Other than that all else is great but again, wont give this item a full 5 stars (if deserved) until I get some use out of it.I'm always weary of Chinese products, but other reviews made me feel confident this was a good buy, but again time will tell.JUST REMEMBER THE SHIPPING COCNERNS!!!!!!!
