I watched the Great British Baking Show and saw one of the contestants use Tonka Beans, which perplexed one of the judges. He said he wasn't sure of them. They are supposed to be a luxurious vanilla-ish spice, but I have to admit everyone who's tasted the spice in my baking akins them to an almond and cherry flavored vanilla. It's delicious! Also, the beans I received took about ten days to arrive but are very fresh.

These smell wonderful. Also made some great cookies, which got rave reviews from those who tried them.

Some of the beans are like they should be, brown and flavorful. A lot of them are are white however, and smell like slime, not usable. Most of partly brown partly white, and have a mixed sweet/slime smell. Hole in the bag it shipped in.

I recently learned about tonka beans and wanted to try them. some people rave about the flavor. I made a powder with my planer and added it to shortbread. to me it tastes a little like cherry-almond with a hint of cinnamon. It smells like soap to me, but maybe that's because it is used in soaps. I'm glad I bought it. I won't be buying it again anytime soon because i don't love it more than almond flavoring or cinnamon which are significantly easier to get.

These lend a brand new flavor to my cakes and custards.
