Plant fast!
Using this auger with a Dewalt DCD999 (1/2" drill required), and despite the clay soil and occasional rocks, it really works well. This size auger is recommended to use with a larger, heavier duty drill, but so far I've had no issues even in the heavier clay areas. With this Auger I can Easily dig holes to plant mid-sized (Quart) plants from the garden center, and the resulting removed soil is nicely broken down and easy to mix with compost and other amendments for backfilling, where digging out with a shovel I'm doing additional work to break up the solid chunks of clay soil. By rolling the auger around, you can easily expand the hole to fit most 2 quart size pots Very well made and sturdy,, I've tried cheaper augers and it always leads to failure. Never had a Power Planter fail me.

Awesome tool!
I bought a very fancy mailbox that requires that I bury partially, a 4x4 post to a depth of between 28" - 30", and since I dread digging holes of more than 6" let alone 30", so I decided to do some research for an inexpensive way to achieve my goal, without hiring someone or buying an expensive tool. This tool perfectly achieved that. I powered the tool with an 18V - 1/2" Dewalt drill/driver, two minutes later, my post is ready to be set. A word of advice, should you decide to buy this planter auger, make sure to power it slowly so that you don't twist your wrist. This was a risk I was prepared to take. Good luck!

Reforestation? Let’s go!
My wife and I needed to plant 2,200 plug 1 trees last month. Without totally boring you with a long story I purchased the heavy duty variant to use with my DeWalt DCB999. We used 60 v and 4ah and larger 20v batteries to plant upwards of 700 trees. The diameter of hole was perfect and the bit held up wonderfully.. With a little finesse this thing chewed through small roots, various soils, even large roots from trees long dead (those were a bit harder haha). Overall I couldn’t be more pleased with the way this bit performed. I had my doubts, but now I am a believer. Money well spent.

Back Saver
This drill bit is a God send! I drilled 163 holes for creeping phlox I want to plant and it took me just a little over an hour. This is coming from someone a 72 year old who has lymphedema in my right leg, need a knee replacement in my left leg and spinal stenosis in my back. It truly was a breeze to use and saved me much pain in my back and legs.

Heavy duty model survived rocky abuse
I drove the 5” HD auger with the big, expensive Dewalt DCD460B drill, like they show in their video. I had to dig an 18” deep trench for 100’ up a 30 degree slope with no possible way to access with heavy equipment. The “soil” was at least 20% rocks and tree roots. It could not be shoveled, only dug out slowly with a pick-axe. Using the auger I was able to loosen the soil enough to shovel it. It was like wrestling an anaconda, but I managed not to get hurt by being constantly alert. I used the side handle for leverage. The only thing that made it possible was the electronic clutch on the drill that quickly disconnected rotation when large rocks and roots were encountered. Without the clutch the torque on a big drill is uncontrollable and can lead to quick serious injury. My one complaint is that the hairpin clips they provide to hold the pins on the drive shaft somehow go flying off. Had to replace them with cotter pins

Major Time Saver
This was one of the best time-saver tool purchases that I've ever made. I've used several different post hole diggers (manual clam shell, PTO, gas 1 & 2 man, gas 1 man rolling gantry), and they were all hard to use and generally expensive to own or rent. This auger, a heavy duty 1/2" electric drill and a good extension cord is far cheaper, faster and easier to use than any of them ! My only caveats would be not to use it in large rock or root filled soil and the need for a generator if too far from a 110/120v power source. My first job for it was to dig the post holes every 10' for a 30' x 50' raised garden bed. The soil on my property is hard pan clay and it's like digging concrete when using a clam shell post hole digger. This auger dug 2' deep holes in seconds. My only quibble is that the point should be a couple of inches longer. It wants to wander when the edge of the auger blade first contacts the soil. I actually carefully ground off the weld around the point and found that it's attached to a 3/4" rod that's long enough to pull out and re-weld to the main shaft. Now it works even better. I highly recommend this product and would purchase again if I should ever need to.

Ok for soft soil but anything else it just stops. Also kicks the dirt out everywhere so real messy.

Highly recommend this great quality auger. Very sturdy makes planting in the garden so much easier. Very pleased with this purchase, highly recommend Power planter augers. I also have the 7 inch which is wonderful as well for planting larger plants/shrubs.
