Best Sony Headphones Ever Created.
These are the absolute best headphones on the market today. The sound is in one word incredible. 4 Range Volume Control high to low with a choice between mono or stero (what other headphones have these options). Plug these headphones into your computer speakers with the volume of the speakers in the middle and headphone volume in the middle then turn the Sony MDR-250V volume all the way up, then tell me what you hear - QUALITY!!! I've been using these headphones for 2 years, and it just doesn't get any better than this.

Comfortable, durable, sound pretty good
I do not understand the negative reviews. I have had these headphones for years. I wear them at work for hours at a time and can say from experience that they are comfortable. I really appreciate the volume control on the cord. Unlike another reviewer, I have had no problems with it. I normally use these with either my computer or my iPod classic, listening to music, podcasts and audio books. They sound pretty good for the money. They have also held up well. Of course, they don't sound as good as my more expensive Sennheiser phones that I have at home. They are just beginning to wear out, so I may be getting another pair just like them as a replacement. There might possibly be better sounding phones for the same price, but I can say that these are comfortable and have lasted a long time and sound good enough for most purposes. I don't think that you could do much better for the price.Update:I have had them for about 5 years and they finally broke. I am going to replace them with the same model. I use these at work and the in-line volume control is important to me in my work situation. I can say from 5 years of experience that they are durable, comfortable and the volume control held up well for me. The sound quality is adequate. If you don't care about the volume control feature, as most people probably won't, you might want to spend a bit more on better sounding ones. For $20, I don't think that you could do very much better. If you are after top sound quality, you probably aren't looking at these anyway, but I recommend the Sennheiser HD555. That is what I use at home.

What has the world come to when THESE are considered "exceptional" headphones?
Um.. wow. Garbage, crap. They are flimsy, made out of the cheapest material available. ALL plastic. VERY breakable. Sound sucks. Doesn't cover your entire ear. Uncomfortable. Flimsy.Today I found a FAR better pair of headphones on CRAIGSLIST for only $10 - and they were right around the corner. SENNHEISER HD-202 <-- I suggest going that route instead, much better bang for your buck. What happened to the days of nice, full sound and luxurious cushions that cover the WHOLE ear (and then some!!) with cushions on the head band, hm? You'll find the SENNHEISER brand HD 202 is much better built (cushions and all).

Not a good option, sound is not flat, too boomy
I bought this headphones since I had already owned a pair of the mdrv 150 model, so I wondered if the mdr250v had a better sound to help me throughout my mixes. The think about this headphones, is they have a higher response in the low frequencies, and this is a very boomy response. As well, they have a lack of response in the higher frequencies, so practically, what you hear the most in the headphones are the low frequencies, and it is a very boomy sound which is very annoying. I would recommend aniybody wanting to buy the mdr 250v, to buy instead the mdr v150, which are not only cheaper, but they have an excellent resopnse in all the frequencies, sound brilliant and warm, and are very comfortable. Also, the mdr150 are of exceptional quality, I can't imagine how this headphones are still working perfectly after 5 years of use. I have stepped even stepped on my m150s, they have fallen a couple hundred times, they have handled extreme noises from consoles, they have travelled everywhere, and they are still working PERFECTLY. I consider Sony has really made an effort in selling this undestructable headphones for just $17, even cheaper than the 250v, and way better.

Sony V250 headphones
Great inexpensive headphones with volume control. Comfortable, adjustable over the head and ears for listening over the internet (news, YouTube, TV programs etc.) and the TV itself. They're also sturdy enough so I don't have to handle them delicately Sony MDR-V250V Monitor Series Headphones with In-line Volume Control . May not be the best for optimal music listening, but those headsets are far more expensive and not needed for my everyday use. I bought it for the volume control in particular. No microphone is attached for anyone who wants to use one. But I chat directly via my webcam.

Good sound, disappointingly fragile
For four years I was a paper carrier. I delivered my newspapers in the morning, between 4:00 and 5:30 AM, back when I was in high school. I always had a portable CD player with me, and used these headphones to listen to music while I delivered. In those four years, I had gone through FOUR pairs of these. I loved their sound, and they were fairly comfortable, but after an hour and a half of wearing them, they did hurt my ears. I still use a pair (the last pair I bought). Be warned, both the 1/8 inch connector and the volume control are easily damaged, making either the left or right earphone, or sometimes both, stop working. I tried to repair them, but found very cheap wiring when I went to splice a new connector onto them, which may explain why they failed so easily. This last pair has held up fairly well, but even now, the connector is failing. Be warned, they're fragile and can be uncomfortable.

Puro sonido Sony
Aunque estos auriculares llevan ya un tiempo en el mercado, su comodidad cuando los tienes puestos, la integración del control de volumen en el cable y su sonido han hecho que los haya buscado por cielo y tierra para tener otros iguales.

Excellent peformance for a budget price.
I use these at work for listening to the radio and to music, they give me the personal space I need to get through my work in a sometimes busy and noisy office. The headphones themselves are well made, lightweight, and give a crisp sound. The sound canceling qualities are not perfect but they do cut out a lot of the distracting background noise of a typical office.I chose these headphones over several other choices, including more expensive offerings from Sony, and I am not disappointed in my final decision.

Good sound but too tight. And I don't have a big head or thick hair.

Not bad for the price
I've had these headphones for a number of months now and for the price can't complain. Whilst not noise cancelling they do a decent job of keeping out unwanted noise and are well made.I have no idea quite what the point of the remote control is on the lead, it doesn't really offer any value and occasionally slips into mono-mode. I use the headphones for music and podcasts and generally can set a volume sufficient for a single listening session thus don't need to meddle to often. The phones themselves sit comfortably on the head and don't make you look too much like a cyberman.
