PLEASE READ - MY EXPERIENCE-LOVE THIS FITBIT
I WANT TO MAKE SURE MY EXPERIENCE IS SHARED WITH OTHERS: I ordered this back in Jan 2013. Was perfect and easy to use when delivered. I used it everyday for about 6 months. Then I stopped because I became busy and always syncing from my computer was getting to be a hassle. So anyways, a few weeks ago I decided I wanted to start using it again especially because I'm going on a cruise the end of this year. So, I went to go turn it on and IT WOULDNT TURN ON. I began freaking out and reading what could be wrong. I couldnt find anything besides being told to take the battery out and put it back in, I did this several times. It still didnt work! So, I got upset because I knew the last time I checked the battery it had a FULL battery, so I wasnt convinced that was my problem. Anyways, I emailed fitbit through their customer service on their website. They basically said they couldnt find an order # for me and that I needed to contact who I bought it from. So i remembered I bought it from Amazon, so I emailed them and they told me usually there's only a 30 day warranty but in my case, theyd make an exception. They sent me a replacement, free of charge. All I had to do was send back my old one (which I did a few days ago). WOW! Let me say, I AM IMPRESSED WITH THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I am so happy they made things right with me! They were very kind to me and I will definetly be showing off my fitbit to my family on this cruise (ALOT of us are going) and ill be trying to convince them of this amazing device, and also to purchase from Amazon if they do get it!! Please keep up this amazing customer service, I am VERY, VERY happy with Amazon AND my fitbit. I HIGHLY SUGGEST this to anyone who is looking to count their steps, cals burned, distance traveled, and more! Just a note: This fitbit zip is NOT one that can track sleep, so if thats something your wanting, this one is NOT for you. I was just looking for an accurate step counter, and this does the job PERFECTLY! You wont be disappointed!! Good luck with your purchase (: P.S. If anything goes wrong, and this one stops working suddenly too, I will be sure to update!

How can anyone not love this thing???
Just purchased a new Fitbit Zip after stupidly losing my last one that I have had for a year and a half. The Fitbit has completely motivated me to be more active every day! I think it's the greatest little invention ever! There's a lot of different activity trackers on the market now but this one is inexpensive, accurate, and does everything I need it to do. Out of curiosity I read some of the poor reviews, because I couldn't imagine what there is not to like about this little gadget, and I feel a few things need to be addressed. Some people complained about having to replace the batteries, and having to make sure you have the little tool to open the back of the battery compartment. Now, we are all adults here, right? So you put the little tool, and some spare batteries, in a baggie in a special spot in a drawer, and then when you need to change the battery (you will get an email telling you your battery is low), you change it. Easy! Some complained about the cost of the batteries. Personally, I like having a battery to replace rather than having another gadget to charge. Here's a tip: you can buy the batteries really cheap on eBay. How often you sync your Fitbit with your phone will affect your battery life. I admit I can get a little obsessive syncing it a lot to see my progress throughout the day, so that makes the battery wear out faster. In general I think you should get about 2 to 4 months between battery changes. The Zip is very accurate with it's counting. If you have a different type that you wear on your wrist, be aware that those might not count steps if your arms are not swinging, like when you are pushing a shopping cart. Otherwise the wrist type versus the clip on type is a personal choice. You do have to remember to clip this on your clothes each time you change, but that does not bother me. Personally I like that the Zip can be clipped on and be more discreet than the wrist types. Lastly, people have complained about Fitbit customer service, and all I can say is that I have contacted them a few times and have been extremely happy with their fast response, and their willingness to go above and beyond to keep their customers happy. Love my Fitbit!

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!
I LOVE my Fitbit Zip! I clip it on to my bra first thing in the morning and don't take it off until I go to bed at night. It is such a motivator and so easy to use. I always thought that I was pretty active, taking in hopefully 10,000 steps a day! Boy, was I wrong. Now when I sync my zip to my computer, if I don't have at least 10,000 or at least 5 miles, I'll go for another walk or practice my line dance steps just to get in my numbers! My sister-in-law, who lives in another state also has one and we are now fitbit buddies! We can see how many steps we are doing, and I try to keep ahead of her. I'm so glad that I bought this Zip! I've had it now for almost 2 weeks and I just got my Penguin March badge for going over 70 miles! What a hoot. I also have my Urban Boot badge for doing 15,000 steps in one day and I am working on my next badge for 20,000 steps.....it ain't easy but like I said it is a motivator! I would recommend this to anyone who wants to stay healthy and maybe even lose some weight, like me. Well, after 2 weeks of bliss, the zip would not sync to my computer, no matter what we did. I love the whole concept, but I want something that is going to be reliable. I have requested a refund and will give the zip one more chance. Well, I bought a 2nd one, it arrived yesterday, and this one won't sync at all! I give up. I am sending this one back and looking into other models not associated with fitbit!!

Hard to lie to yourself with one of these
This little device is great for making it hard to lie to yourself on just how active you are. Right now it is making a sad face at me because I have been sitting here doing some reviews and I am really behind on getting active today. OK, OK! Just one more review you pesty thing! Pros: - Like mentioned above, you have a good idea about just how active you are. It really keeps me motivated to move a bit more - The online programs that go with this is pretty good. You can see when you are most active. If you want to track food eaten and get calorie goals for weight loss, you can do that too through here. It is also great at letting you link up with outside programs like MapMyWalk and MyFitnessPal. It does not force you to just stick to their program, though you will still need to log in. - If your phone, tablet, or computer has blue-tooth, you will not need the dongle to sync up. - You can hook up with friends online for some healthy competition and support. I found this very useful. At least through the phone app, I am not sure it is on the computer version, you can even set challenges that can drag in even more people. I am finding this to be pretty fun, though it can add a lot of pressure. - You can set just how private you want your information. - You will not accidentally have your hand gestures count as steps. My friend with the wrist version has that happen or her steps do not get counted if she is pushing a cart and her hands are still from that. She still likes it though if you are considering one. - It is small and I can clip it to my bra, or in a pocket (if you do not wear bras). I do not have to have it out on my wrist at all times. Nice especially if you have to dress up a bit for work. But if you want to check your status during the day, digging in your bra can be awkward. At least for others around you. ;) - It handles sweat find. Cons: - Battery life is not that long. I can last on average about 2 months. I am not sure if it is the batteries I buy or that there is something else going on to reduce battery life. This has been the case with both of these that I have owned. - Because you can tuck it away nicely, you will not notice if you have lost it until way too late. This is my second one. - Getting the back off to replace the battery works best with the teeny device that comes with it. I have tried coins and those damaged the back a bit. If you lose the device, it can be a pain, but you can still get the back off with a wide, flat-head screwdriver. - The dongle is tiny, do not lose it! - Calories burned is not that accurate. I pair this up with My Fitness Pal online and solve that. I have not found many devices that are really accurate with this any way. - For what it does track, I think it is a bit pricey. Wait for sales. Worth it. General: - It keeps track of the basics. No heart rate or sleep tracking for instance. Stairs? Nope. But I do not find I miss those. Talking to friends who have these features on the more expensive models, these are often not used by them or they find them not so accurate. Get this for keeping track of how active you are in general throughout the day. It really does motivate you. It helps too when you are keeping track of calories according to your activity levels. - The initial set up of the online program may take awhile to get the best use out of it. You need to be sure to set your stride length for instance. I did not really find this to be a con and I expected it. Once everything is in, then you are good to go from there. - It is not re-chargable, but the luck I have with the life span of those is not great so I do not mind.

A great way to monitor your exercise and overall activity level.
I am diabetic and need to exercise and eat right to keep my blood sugar at healthy levels. I got a Fitbit as a gift from my wife (and lost it). She gave me a black one, which is really hard to see if it comes loose, so I replaced it with the green one. The picture here is of the pink one, but I got the neon green one, which really isn't as vibrant a neon green as the picture would suggest. It's more like an Army-issue olive drab green, but it's still easier to see than the black one. I'm using this to help me lose weight, too, and I'd lost 20 pounds prior to getting the Fitbit. Since then, it's kept me aware of when I slack off on my walking and as a result I've managed to drop another 10+ pounds. I recommend clipping it in your pocket as low as it will go, otherwise it gets in the way. The black one I lost was carried loose in my pocket and I'm sure at some point I got out my keys or something and it fell and I didn't hear it fall. The big trick is remembering to take it off at night at bedtime and put it on the pants I wear the next day. I don't really use the calorie counter or the mileage/distance function, since there's no way to adjust it to my normal stride. So, I just keep track of my steps. If you have a laptop or PC, this comes with a "dongle" that plugs into a USB port and you can sync it daily to a "dashboard" that keeps track of your daily steps on a weekly or monthly basis. It also keeps a running total of steps and I'm well over 200,000 in the 6 weeks I've been using this. More than anything this is useful as a reminder to myself to get up and MOVE and not sit down watching TV or reading too much. I may get a wrist Fitbit at some point, but for now this is just great. You pay a few dollars more for the neon green than you do for the black one, but IMHO it's worth the money just so you can find the darn thing easier! I am having fun with this and highly recommend it for those of you (myself included) who may not walk as much as we should. I'm literally walking the pounds off!

Motivated me to walk more! (Updated Oct-15)
Update October 2015: After owning my Zip for a year, it is history now and I've replaced it with a Fitbit One. If costs more but so SOOO much better. Here's the downside to the ZIP and upside to the One: -I was replacing batteries in my Zip about every 2 months. That's a cost to me of around $15-20 yr. I would keep tabs on the battery status, but it was not always accurate. One day it showed a full battery and the next day it showed it almost empty! With the One, I just plug it into my computer while I'm working about once every 10-14 days for an hour or so, and it recharges easily. -The side battery contact on the ZIP compresses in periodically (due to normal jostling around). Customer service emailed instructions on how to fix it (which I had to do about once a month or so). It involved opening the battery compartment and using a needle or pin and gently prying the side contact out a bit so that it makes good contact with the battery again. Well, this ultimately killed my ZIP. I guess I used too much pressure and the little silver contact broke right off. It was DEAD for good. I don't have to fool with this poor design flaw with the ONE. -The ONE is about the same size as the ZIP but is slimmer. I fits better in my bra unlike the rounder ZIP. The clip is also longer on the ONE but I don't entirely trust the clip on the ONE either. The screen on the ONE is lights up while the ZIP does not. I can track my sleep with the ONE (using an armband included with purchase) and set a vibrating wake-up alarm. The ZIP does not track sleep nor have a silent alarm function. The ONE has stair tracking, the ZIP does not. My husband lost his ZIP and replaced it with one of the wrist models which he loves. So, if you don't want a wrist model, like me, get the ONE and bypass the ZIP. I wish I had. Having this little Fitbit zip has really motivated me to walk more and get my 10,000 steps in each day. Instead of sitting at the bus stop, I go 20 m.early and walk. Instead of reading a magazine in the car while my daughter has her piano lesson, I walk around the block. Granted, it's fall and the weather is glorious, so it's easy to be outside. Winter and summer may be more difficult to get my steps in. The only downside to the zip is that it's easy to lose. I lost mine at Target, but found it in the bathroom before leaving the store. I found that if you attach it to your pocket, it tends to work it's way off as you sit and stand over and over. It's definitely more secure attached to my bra or all the way in my pocket. My husband poo-pooed my purchase initially, but now he has one too!

Really Pleased
I received my Fitbit Zip almost three weeks ago, and I am extremely pleased with it! I have given the Zip a rating of 5 stars because it has done exactly what I purchased it to do. Motivated me to move more and allowed me to keep track of progress, I'm very results motivated so seeing results every day has really helped me. I work as an Administrative Assistant and I have to sit for a big portion of the day, but I have still been able to double my average steps since I got it and I find myself taking more walks after work and even walking in place in front of the photo copier as apposed to standing still. I also really enjoy the ability to track my water intake via the free app, because I always seem to forget to drink enough, I've tripled my water intake in the past few weeks. Pros: * The color is pretty much exactly the same as shown in the photo, bright pink, which is helpful when you misplace it because it is very tiny * The size makes it easy to hide under clothing while still looking professional, which is important because I work in an office. It is also very light and I find the opening the back to put the battery in to be very simple. * Very accurate regardless of if you clip it to your shirt/bra, or your waist band. * I have not noticed it to record car rides as steps even when on three hour car trips. I saw a few reviews that referenced this as a problem. I'm not sure if was a glitch that was fixed before I purchased mine or if it was a function of their specific Zips not working quite right. * I find the little faces the Zip makes at you hilarious and surprisingly motivating, I always feel a sense of accomplishment when I see the little smiley face. * The distance tracker is also really encouraging to see, as is the calorie tracker. However, a note on the calorie tracker, I'm fairly certain that the Zip calculates your total calories burned in a day, not just the calories burned from how much you move. I saw a couple reviews that stated they thought the calorie counter was way off, I think this is why they felt this way. * The free app/membership is really nice. I like how you can track and chart your progress and the little shower of smiley faces they give you when you meet your daily goal. However I don't use the calorie, sleep or weight tracker, so I can't comment on those. * I find it to be very secure. I haven't had the Zip itself fall out of the clip or the clip come lose from my clothing. I saw several reviews that referenced this as an issue, but I personally have not experienced it and I have worn it every day. Possible Cons (I say possible because they do not really count as cons for me personally): * The Zip doesn't record how many stairs you climb a day. This doesn't bother me but I know some people might like to keep track of this *The Zip doesn't track your sleep or have an alarm function. Again, not an issue for me as I have no use for a sleep tracker or another alarm to torment me. * The Zip has no way to track your heart rate. I'm not really concerned with keeping track of this. Basically if you are looking for a basic activity tracker that you can easily wear every day and motivate you to move more through out the day, this little guy is perfect. If you are more intense in your training or wish for more information to be gathered I would suggest you look at some of Fitbit's more advanced activity trackers like the One and the Flex. Happy walking!

Cute but
I got the pink/magenta one. My mom uses the Fitbit One. This is really just a glorified pedometer. Fit snug on the bra and no one can see it. I didn't even feel it. If you workout daily you really don't need this unless your workout is walking. The only other reason I can think is that you just want to keep track of steps. But don't wear it while on the bike, running, in any bouncy transportation, or if you have lots of movement upstairs. Since I clipped it on my bra any extra movement would trigger a step. Going up steps doubled my step count. Using it on the stationary bike for an hour well let's just say I hit over 8,000 steps. You can adjust the calories burned by putting the time you started working out and duration but it will not adjust the steps. Now let's talk about the Fitbit app. Well if you don't have certain devices better keep your laptop or desktop on so you can sync with their website. The device does hold info for roughly 7 days if you can't get around to syncing. The weightloss plans are just odd. I tried the one to lose 1.5lbs a week and I gained weight! I was hungry all the time! After 2 weeks I asked about in the community. Come to find out most people had the same issue with plans. Customer service is a joke. Sure they are nice but they are less than helpful. If you can't support a phone then don't allow the app to be downloaded. If you can't even allow people to edit their own post on your community or help them when they have issues you might want to consider what you really want to offer customers....or the select few that wish to allow syncing of your device. It seems if you don't have an iphone4s or higher don't bother. I have read post after post of Android users having sync issues. In the end it isn't very helpful to someone who doesn't need a little device to tell them to be active.
