I wish I had this book 5 years ago
In 2018, I read the IPCC's special report on global warming of 1.5 °C. Its key finding, made by the world's leading scientific experts, declared that we had 12 years left to limit the very worst impacts of climate change and prevent total climate collapse. I was 23-years-old at the time and this warning destroyed any visions I had for my own future. The strangest part was that I did not see the panic or the powerful urge to fight mirrored in anyone else around me. I felt alienated, and even insane, until I found a community of climate activists and organizers. They felt similarly devastated and galvanized by the landmark UN report. For a time, throwing myself into action soothed the many unpleasant feelings I was experiencing. It has taken me a long time, and the experience of many failures, to realize that my motivation to be a part of a movement could never be sustained without processing my own fear and grief. Reading Facing the Climate Emergency by Margaret Klein Salamon felt like the first time I actually took space to do that. This book should be immediately placed in the hands of anyone coming to terms with the impending climate catastrophe, to help them find their enduring place in the movement for life.

Must read!
Please please please read this book if you are concerned (on any level) about the future of our planet. It woke me up and gave me the strength that I needed to truly face the climate emergency. It's easy to feel powerless, and I have for years, believing that significant change is solely in the hands of governments and large corporations. While that may hold some truth, I've come to see through this book that we all have a role to play. It's imperative that we take matters into our own hands. Because of this book I've made the commitment to volunteer every week. I have also begun sending copies of the book to friends and family. "Facing the Climate Emergency" has not only altered my perspective but also spurred me into action. It's a must-read that has the power to inspire positive change on both personal and global levels.

this book will help you
I'm a clinical psychologist who has done some work related to the climate emergency, and this is the book I'd have wanted to have written if I was as brave, prescient, kind, and wise as Dr. Salamon. "Facing the Climate Emergency" is essential reading. Her book has helped me transform, to stabilize my concern and heartbreak about climate change into a sense of meaning, purpose, clarity, vulnerability, community, and resolve that I am proud to hold and proud to be part of. Through my transformation I have been genuinely able to help others do the same. You are not alone. Transformation, healing, and empowerment are possible. This book will help.

Full of lies and propaganda.
This book is written by one of the people that is funding young people to disrupt our lives, through daily protests, and denigrate humanity by destroying cultural treasures. She is getting rich while funding such terroristic activities. This book isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

Essential reading for anyone worried about the climate
I can't recommend this book enough to anyone who is worried about the climate - which honestly should be everyone given what we're seeing going on in the world right now. Margaret Klein Salamon writes with so much compassion for the reader as well as clear-headedness and insight. I am so grateful that she has taken the time to unpack and name some of the emotions that come up when thinking about the global catastrophe we are all facing together, humans and all living things alike. She makes clear, acheivable recommendations for how to respond as an individual. Not an easy read, not going to lie - but a necessary one.

Climate anxiety is on the rise as the Climate Emergency intensifies. This book is a must for anyone living with climate anxiety and feeling increasingly hopeless against the backdrop of government inaction as climate-led fires rage, floods emilinate whole towns and famines devastate entire nations. This book will reassure you that climate anxiety is an emotionally healthy response to the Climate Emergency, it will help you to discuss your anxiety with others, and may even help to convince them to join you in taking climate action. Perhaps most importantly, it will help you feel like you're not alone in it all. Margaret Klein Salamon talks compassionately throughout, and always returns to how we can channel negative emotions into actions that will help us, the people we love and the planet. She also brilliantly encapsulates what "emergency mode" looks like, and sets out the blueprint for how we can maintain life on Earth if we start acting in line with the clear scientific consensus. I cannot recommend this book highly enough!
