Q: does the camera constantly bang against your body as you walk or hike ?

The movement of the camera depends of how you desire to adjust the strap. In order to minimize movement of the camera and to avoid it banging against your body you will need to shorten the strap, this provide minimal movement.

Q: What is the diameter of the hole on the metal eye? I would like to use my own one-piece carabiner for added security

I use a safety tether attached to the camera strap mount on the camera body (don't use a neck strap) and a carabiner attached to my belt when walking. When shooting, remove tether from carabiner, unclip stop and swing camera up to shoot. If I want to stay in a ready to shoot mode, I keep one hand on the lens at all times. Not had an issue with the OCim screw mount, but did have a 2nd camera with a tripod mount screw with a hoop pop off! Fortunately it occurred when I had both my had and a tether attached to the camera / lens.

Q: Will this fit a D750or a D3?

Once it has the 1/4 threading at the base of the cam it would work
