Did you notice that this is a mixture of sea plant extracts AND potassium iodide from India? I’d be so much more comfortable if this were USP certified.

Is there a measurable amount of potassium in this product?

If we were good at arithmetic and chemistry, we'd be able to figure out how many grams of potassium is in a batch of potassium iodide that provides 1000 micrograms of iodine.

According to Wikipedia, the chemical formula for potassium iodide is "KI."  So there's one atom of Potassium (K) for every atom of Iodine (I).  Iodine has an atomic weight of about 127 something-or-others, and potassium has an atomic weight of 39 something-or-others.  So that's a ratio of 127 to 39.  If you have 1000 micrograms of iodine (such as in this product), that ratio says you'll get 307 micrograms of potassium, less than a half-a-milligram.  That assumes a product that is 100% potassium iodide.

One complication is that the ingredients say they include potassium iodide and kelp, etc., for a total of 1000 mcg of iodine.  You can tell me kelp and bladderwort, but I want to know what the compounds of iodine are in the capsules, and "kelp and bladderwort" is only telling me the source, not the chemical.  Besides also, is it 99% potassium iodide and 1% a combination of kelp and bladderwort?  Or the other way around? Or 50-50?  So my calculations are less accurate, considering we don't know what some of the iodine-compounds are that's included in this product.

But I think it's still a good bet that each capsule contains less than a milligram of potassium.

Google for "Dr. Brownstein iodine," and He says that the best iodine supplement is a combination of elemental iodine (which is brownish red) and iodide compounds, such as potassium iodide (white powder or colorless solution).  So I'm looking specifically for a combination, but the way the ingredients are stated on this product, I don't get any assurance that it includes any elemental iodine, because they don't tell us whats the actual chemicals.

A "combination" can be found in Lugol's solution, i-Throid capsules (which cost more than a bottle of solution and eyedropper), Heiltropfen, and "terry naturally."  That is not a complete listing.
