Crescent Wiss 9-1/4" Metalmaster Offset Straight and Left Cut Aviation Snips - M6R , Red

I like the Crescent brand. There are other brands cutters out there. It is strong, comfortable in my hand, and was a good value -- so I chose this one and have no regrets.

Aviation snips are only meant to cut about 1/4” wide strip at a time cleanly. Don’t try to plow through the middle of a piece of 20g steel with them. Make a rough cut by some other means. If used properly, these are a remarkable value. For the red handles, the scrap will curl up to the left side. The greens will curl the scrap up on the right. The offset handles will keep your hand up and away from the sharp metal edge. I have used these daily for more than 15 years to trim 18-20g steel and 16g Aluminum. They are awesome and stay sharp quite a while—probably about a year if you use them every day. You can trim remarkably fine slivers off the edge of a panel if needed. You can become emotionally attached to them after a year or more of excellent service, but it’s ok to let ‘em go and get another pair. I have tried more expensive kinds, but they just aren’t as good as these in my opinion.

They work well for commercial hvac duct work. The locking mechanism is not to spec, doesnt latch, and sometimes gets in the way while cutting, but for the price these are good enough for me!

The media could not be loaded. I had to enlarge an existing circular cutout in 14 gauge metal by 1/4". These snippers enabled me to complete the task quickly and easily

Really excited to have discovered this product - I needed to make many long straight cuts on thin sheets for my HVAC project. Nope! Tried it on 26g, required super human strength, gave up. Then tried on 28g, it did cut but my hand hurt … but then the cut was terrible, probably poor design and/or quality. By the way, this model is "Made in China". Stick with the yellow straight cut model, tried and true. Slow on long cuts but perfect otherwise.
