This thermometer is larger than the original thermometer that came with my BGE. The larger size makes it easier to read from further away. (Sitting in easy chair) The higher temperature range also helps when cooking pizza.

I bought this solely because it is adjustable. In other words, I can use boiling water or a known accurate thermometer to adjust the thermometer to make it accurate. However, it is "sticky" at low temperatures, and the reason is obvious. The pointer touches the face of the dial, ever so slightly. You can see it hold and then "slip." Plus, it is slow to register the correct temperature, which presumably doesn't matter much except when you're calibrating. The temperature probe is a little short. Long pliers are essential for calibration.BGE should correct the stickiness at least. Other manufacturers should take note that the ability to calibrate is essential for satisfactory performance over the long term.

Temperature spot on and the big dial allows me to see my temperature from inside the house. I definitely recommend the upgrade.
