Daily Use for a Year — Still Love It
I’ve been using the Ember Smart Mug 2 almost every day for about a year (I skip caffeine on Saturdays), and it’s easily one of my favorite purchases. I haven’t had a single issue with it during that time. What I like: Keeps my coffee at an exact, consistent temperature once set The app lets you dial in your preferred temperature, and the mug remembers it afterward Build quality feels premium, and the copper finish looks great on my desk Works especially well when paired with a sliding lid to extend battery life With the lid, I rarely need to use the charging coaster while drinking What could be better: The app can be a bit annoying to use, especially during initial setup Battery life is short without a lid, so slow sippers will want the charging plate within reach Once everything is set up, the app becomes mostly hands-off, and the mug just does its job. If you like your coffee or tea at a precise temperature and tend to sip slowly, this mug—especially with a lid—has been a daily essential for me.

A daily luxury I’m completely hooked on
I use my Ember Smart Mug every single day, all day long, mostly for herbal tea, and it has honestly become one of my favorite little indulgences. Being able to set my drink to the exact temperature I want and have it stay there consistently is a luxury I’ve become completely addicted to. No more lukewarm tea or coffee—every sip stays just right. Because I use it throughout the day, I usually keep it on the charging coaster, which works great for maintaining that ideal temperature for hours. The auto-sleep and motion detection features make it incredibly easy and convenient to use. A small note: you do need to be careful not to get the charging coaster wet, since that can damage the charging pins. I also ended up buying an off-brand charger and lid, and both worked well for me. I loved mine so much that I bought one for my husband and another for my daughter, which really says it all. Overall, this mug is an absolute game-changer and the perfect everyday indulgence for anyone who loves coffee or tea at a truly consistent temperature.

Great mug, a LOT expensive, but definately works.
The original review was accurate, but now that I've had the mug for 6 months (Originally 3 star), I have to reduce its rating... The mug itself is great, works well, and does what it says. It keeps my drinks at the temperature I set it to. The reason I'm reducing the rating here for 2 reasons. 1) Trying to reach an actual person or something more intelligent than an automated help desk, is seeming to be nearly impossible. - To expand on this: I have been unable to find any contact information to report any issues I do have with the mug or software (I have no issues with the mug so far, but the software annoys me to no end). 2) The software for the mug is so far below par, that they might as well just have a digital display on the side to show the temp and just set it that way. - Let me expand on this: a) If you don't keep your mug paired, ie: carry it with you 100% of the time, anytime it isn't paired, it forgets its pairing, and you have to go through the pairing procedure again to reconnect it. My car is a 2014, and the BlueTooth in it remembers my phone when I start it up, but this mug cannot. b) There's no way to override the heating to ON, if the sensor doesn't trigger to say the mug isn't empty, it won't turn on, even in the software Bluetooth connection. Through some digging, it states that it determines if it's empty by the significant difference in temperature: The mug is cold, pour warm to hot fluid in it, and it detects the temp change and determines it's not empty. I understand this is probably a safety feature to prevent the mug from burning out, but there should be some way to turn it on when you put room temp liquid into a room temp mug. (I usually make a batch of tea, and if I don't finish it all in a day, I use it the next day, I shouldn't have to microwave the first cup just to get it hot enough for the mug to realize it's full.) So in summary: -The mug is absolutely great, so far it's held up fine, with no chips/scratches. Works great to keep temp set. -Software needs a LOT of work. The biggest issue is the Bluetooth connection/protocol. I shouldn't have to re-pair it every day just to connect to the mug to change it from Tea to coffee, or some other temp for a different drink. -Better contact forms, for when you can't resolve the problem via automated help. I'm hoping that by rating this at only 1 star, maybe I'll get a way to contact the company, or at least they'll read this review and take the issues under advisement. Maybe even make a suggestions/complaints form to get these issues noticed so they know what to work on. Until I see a way to contact a live person, even if it's just email, or something simple, I cannot rate this higher than a 1. IF I were having a real issue with this mug (like it not working) I'd be out the money it cost me to buy it. Original Review Below this line: *********************************** Keeps my tea at the temperature I set, making every sip enjoyable. Pros: Heats relatively fast Keeps Temp very well. Con's: It's for Right Handers, if you're left-handed, (or hold the mug in your left hand), the LED is on the back side where you can't see it (less of a problem while you're actually holding it), but if you set it down for grabbing with your left hand you can't see the LED. The software is a little glitchy. I tried setting it to Celsius for a little bit, then when I tried to switch it back to Fahrenheit, it wouldn't switch, I had to reset the app completely to default to get it back to Fahrenheit. Couldn't find a contact form for issues (like the above software glitch), or suggestions.

Love the concept of an always warm cup of coffee.
This is my third Ember mug. The first two were gifted to me. I am a coffee sipper not a gulper. I was constantly reheating my drink prior to receiving this gift. These mugs typically keep your drink warm for about 80 minutes before needing recharging. So this indulgence is perfect for me. My only complaint is that it only lasts about 2 years before the battery no longer holds the charge that long. I give it 5 stars for the first year then things start to go down hill after that. Maybe I am being unreasonable expecting something in this price range to last more than two years ?

Lasted 3 Years, 10 Months
Update No. 2:After 3 years and 10 months of about 1000 uses, battery is finally losing ability to charge. time for a new mug. Update: 16 months later I still use the ember mug every day and like it. But something is loose in the charger base. I have to turn it upside down and place the inverted mug underneath it. I guess a wire is loose or something of that sort so electricity only flows with the whole set-up inverted. So I can’t place the mug on the charger to keep my brew hot for a long time. Since I finish off any given dose of Java fairly fast, this is not a problem. I can do at least 2 cups before I have to recharge. I hope the charger doesn’t die completely. Crazy expensive, but Ember uses induction heating to break the 125° barrier. The “hot” plate never gets hot. All the heat goes into the coffee. It holds a healthy 9 oz. Hand wash. Do NOT microwave. I never seriously thought I’d own a Bluetooth coffee mug and be happy I did. The usual run of nearly identical coffee warmers are just miniature hot plates that, for safety reasons, do not dare go over a certain temperature; around 185°. That temperature, transferred to your mug or cup, just can’t keep your coffee more than about 125° tops in a room with normal temperature. That just doesn’t do it for me. I don’t want warm coffee, I want a HOT coffee. In the past – and by the past I mean about a week ago- I would get up literally every three minutes and warm up my cooling coffee in the microwave for 15 seconds. That worked, but it was tedious. With the Ember mug, You download the app, easily pair your mug to the app after pressing the bottom button and set your desired maintenance temperature. In my case that temperature is 145. I would go to 155 if it would let me but 145 is the max and will do. If you’ve poured a cup that is hotter than 145 the temperature will gradually lower, accurately displayed on your phone or tablet screen if you care to look, and when your target temperature is reached you get a little notification and the temperature stays there very reliably. This is so great. No more getting up from the table and doing The microwave thing. You don’t even have to keep it plugged in once it is charged. The ember mug is good for at least a couple of cups of coffee before the battery inside the mug runs out. If you keep it on the little induction plate then there is no limit to the number of times you can refill. You don’t have to drag around a little induction plate with its cord and transformer if you need to switch rooms. Due to its induction style heating, the bottom of the mug does not get hot. The mug knows when liquid has been poured into it and turns on by itself. A neat thing: if you have half an inch of liquid in the mug it somehow knows that the liquid still needs heat. But as soon as the mug is empty, the mug knows the score and turns off. As long as this thing keeps working reliably, as I pray that it will, I will regret the high price less and less as the months go by. So buy buy buy Ember Mug!

Absolutely love this mug!
The Ember Mug 2, 14 oz Temperature Control Smart Mug is hands down one of my favorite purchases. I love the heaviness of the stainless steel, it feels substantial and high quality in your hands. Best of all, it keeps my coffee at the perfect temperature from the first sip to the last. No more reheating or rushing to finish before it gets cold. It makes my morning routine so much more enjoyable. LOVE IT!

A great paperweight that used to be a great mug
This is regarding the Ember Mug 1 14oz. size. For what it's meant to do, it's fine at its job. I've had my mug for about 4 years now. After about 2 years of ownership, I noticed that the bottom of the mug had started to form little bubbles where the coating was clearly starting to separate from the mug. I kept using it for another year or so until I noticed that the bottom had started to flake pieces off. I take my coffee black, so there was no mixing with a spoon that could've agitated the bottom of the mug to accelerate its flaking. I contacted support and provided the necessary information for the case via their support portal (serial number, description of the issue, and contact/shipping info). The auto-reply email after submitting a case asked for all of this again. When I replied 4 days later, I asked if there was a person available who could review my case rather than the generic auto-reply that I received. After another 4 days of waiting, I sent a follow up email asking for help a second time. It took another 2 days for someone to finally respond to my case. From the time I opened the case to the time that a support agent actually responded, it took 10 days for someone to contact me. Once I was in contact with the support agent, they asked for the SAME information that was submitted with the initial case. (if you're counting, that's 3 times that I've been asked to submit this info) They still wanted a picture of the serial number (again) and my shipping information (again) (4 times now). Once all of this had been figured out, the support agent reached back out with a generic apology that my device was outside the warranty window (only 1 year warranty) and the best they could do was offer me a discount code on an Ember Mug 2. They did assure me that the coating of the mug was FDA approved and non-toxic. It's irrelevant if it's safe to ingest the coating if the mug itself is flaking its coating off after a few years of use. I don't want to have to replace this thing every few years with another new mug. If that's what Ember is suggesting, then you're likely better off with a microwave safe mug or an insulated mug to save money. For the cost of a new mug, I could buy several sets of microwave safe mugs or several nicer stainless steel mugs to ensure that my coffee doesn't go cold. To summarize, the mug does its job well enough. It's clear that Ember doesn't care about the quality of the materials used to ensure a long lifespan for their products. If they did, this wouldn't be a problem. The response time of their support team was terrible. I did not use the discount code that they provided to me as a "remedy". Why would I want to buy another mug to become a paperweight after a few years of use? The mug does work as stated, so I won't ding it down to a 1 star review, but because of the quality of the materials used and the atrocious support, I have to give them 2 stars. Pros: +Keeps coffee warm +Convenient Cons: -If you need support, good luck -Material quality is tolerable, at best -Overpriced
