A classic work of literature that enriches you in many ways.
The book is a classic representative of the inimitable Hemingway style of writing. The author's mastery of the detail of the situations he describes is amazing. So is the authenticity of his style, which is apparently dispassionate and unmelodramatic, and yet is deeply moving. Reading the book is a rewarding experience.

Classics must have respectable Appearence.
About forty-five years ago, I read this book. It was also a paper back edition, but less voluminous than the one delivered to me on the 17th instant.I cannot remember if the earlier edition had index of the chapters, hence no comment on that. The book Green Hills of Africa, contains 200 pages, while the book For Whom the Bell Tolls contains 490 pages. Both the books have more or less same price in INR, The first named book has relatively much higher price. could it be made less ?Appearene of these books are not very eye-soothing; so also the quality off the papers. Can this be improved while maintaining the same price ?Delivery of the books are within the stipulated period. Thanks for that.

Good Quality
The paper quality is good and the book will last long, the way it looks so far. The book itself is a classic, of course, there are much better reviews of the writing out there than I can give. Certainly would recommend it.

The binding and paper material was good. Packaging was satisfactory and delivery was prompt
A masterpiece by a master novelist, For Whom The Bell Tolls is perhaps the most intricate yet pacy novel that encompasses the extreme humane characteristics under stressful situation of the Spanish Civil War. The binding and paper material was good. Packaging was satisfactory and delivery was prompt.

Slow
Lots of conversations happens between characters for no reason. After every page, I get a feel that something might happen, but nothing really happens. Story moves at tortoise pace and I used to get bored after reading couple of pages. :( Maybe not my cup of tea.

For Whom the Bell Tolls (Vintage War). ISBN-13: 978-0099595533
The only other book by Hemingway that I had completely read was The Old Man and Sea. Both books have that trademark Hemingway style of prose but here the dialagoues between the characters is literally translated from spanish. The story moves slowly but builds upto a terrific end. Buy the Vintage War edition it is better than the Arrow books edition both the quality of the cover as well as the paper.

a great work by Hemingway
a great work by Hemingway. it has the resonance of unrequited but undying love in the backdrop of horrendous, destructive jungle warfare; it has a continuity which hovers around you when the novel ends and comes haunting of and on.
