Q: I see people saying this can be programmed with chirp, can you specify the radio to use hys does not come up and the program disk i received is fubar

I would not recommend using Chirp! I bought 4 of these radios and tried using chirp until I turned one of the radios into a book end. The unit stopped responding to the software and I could no longer bring up the menu on the radio. I found the programming software on Leixen's website. The radio is the VV-898 find the version of the radio (mine were the 108) download and use this software. I have as had no issues reading and writing to both channel banks and setting other radio options.

Yes, it works on repeaters. If you open the case you will find another case inside. It is a fully loaded amateur mobile radio, fully programmable. The antenna can be any normal ham antenna. The big selling point is a built in battery pack, which works great on my bicycle.

Q: what model of radio do you select in chirp ?

I would not recommend Chirp you will, I destroyed one radio attempting to use Chirp. Use the programming software for the Leixen VV-898.
