Works and well-made but watch polarity
The ALPS encoder I was replacing operated in the opposite polarity to this one, and since I don't have access to the firmware, the only thing I could try would be reversing pins or something. As it is, clockwise decrements on my unit. The polarity is determined by which pin fires first as the encoder is turned. Not sure how one would know in advance, I guess there are spec sheets or maybe someone can read that chart they post in the listing. Anyway I thought the unit was solid, nuts and washers are included, if you can't bend a pin back straight this hobby ain't for you.

Good replacement for car stereo volume knob
I used this to replace a bad encoder on a car radio volume knob. The bottom plate was a bit thicker than expected, but I was able to modify and it worked well. Although, the volume adjustment is opposite now. Turning the volume up actually turns it down and vice versa, but that may be because I roasted a small capacitor while desoldering the old encoder. So it was probably a user error instead of a malfunction.

April Aire humidifier replacement
worked perfectly for my april air humidifier knob that broke. I had to slidier it but well worth not having to replace the whole unit.. this stem was a litle longer but still fine...

Works but incorrectly wired for 03 BMW Z4
Although this product works for my 03 BMW Z4 radio, it is incorrectly wired internally. The on/off works as it should, the problem is the volume control. If you turn it to the right it lowers it, if you turn it to the left it highers the volume. It gets it rating because it works. It would get the 5 but my OCD won't allow it. If you are not bothered by it, it would be a great purchase, especially for the price.

I like them !
some encoders sometimes give me two signals per detent, using these for a sim racing steering wheel to adjust TC and ABS using a Arduino Pro Micro and gives me accurate signal to detent ratio ! nice and small size too. I like them !

Very nice for the price!
I'm using these on an arduino volume knob project I'm working on. The encoders are sturdy and compact. They are easy to work with, but make sure you add debounce code to whatever software you're using them for or you'll get bouncing (random opposite values from the way you're turning). They are an excellent value for the price. I would definitely buy again.
