The cover protects it from rain but if you drop in water no.

Q: how big is it? the add says 1.6 inches high

In the case it’s just over 4” tall. 1.6” is the width.

Absolutely, you'll even get the wind chill! If you combine this with using a Kill-o-Watt meter to see how much current it it is using, you'll find out that sometime a lower speed doesn't save much electricity due to inefficiencies in the fan's motor. Best of luck.

Q: Can i use this to measure hvac duct airflow?

Yes. Or any fan. You'll need to multiply the ft/min result by the sensor's cross-sectional area (in sqft). Best to average the value over many points. Even better to concentrate the entire airflow to only the device by blocking any side-air escaping from the sensor.
