What are the concrete tips for automatic shutdown?

I want to measure current flowing to my car starter when cranking engine. Does this clamp on meter measure DC current when using clamp?

Yes, It can read DC starting current with the clamp when set to DC measurement. Reading moves fast but I take video with mobile phone camera and rewind to see the 268A when starting a Nissan Frontier 2.5 L engine. Reasonable current though I cannot check its accuracy yet. I buy meter to monitor DC charging current and confirm non-running car leaking currents under 50mA but need to wait 20 minutes after engine off to let car computer stabilize from initial shutoff which can cab be as high as 0.6A. With this meter, I also find about 10mV leaking voltage on plastic surface between terminals at new battery (due to acid filling spill at manufacturing?) from club store which I need to reduce the Voltage drop to less than 0.1 mV by scribing several grooves on plastics surface around terminal posts. Calibrate to zero by holding Z/F button few seconds before measurement can help read accuracy. I am happy with this meter for the price. Hope you too if do not have time to find a better cheaper on

how accurate is th DC current measurment?

From the listing it says "The measuring range of DC current is 60A/600A. Accuracy: ±(2.5%+5)". That is not very accurate if applied to full scale; good if aplied to actual reading (fluke 1.5%+digits). Especially since some manufacturers apply the accuracy to the full scale value and this may be one of them at this price. That is, in the 600A setting it would be +/-(15+5) Amps, or +/- 20 Amps. Maybe not real bad at 600 (but not good either) but horrible at say 65 Amps which could read between 45 and 85 amps. Hopefully, they apply to the actual reading, which means 65 Amps could read between 58.375 and 71.625 Amps. You could try the 60A setting to see if you can resolve the reading further.

W/ backlite on I tilt the meter away from me the display is readable but once I tilt it towards myself the display becomes unreadable, is this normal?

Yes, with the baclklight on, it's viewable from straight-on to tilted away from yourself, but with the top tilted towards you it loses all contrast. Side-to-side viewing angle is a good. This is a common trait among some LCD displays.
