Mist is gaseous and will expand to fill the space, so if you would like a stronger scent, use the diffuser in a smaller space (and vice versa) or add a little more drops of essential oils. Where do I place the oil if there is no tray above the water? You place 3 - 5 drops of essential oil into the water reservoir directly. They are designed to prevent this, however the use of too much essential oil in your water reservoir could cause oil transfer from the mist to surfaces.
