Interesting book on partition of India
SirThe book Disastrous Twilight by Mr Shahid Hamid who was a Major general in Pakistan Army is very interesting book at the same time it is full of many mistakes of facts about Congress leaders as well India. It is very unfortunate that he was from Lukhnow and having very little knowledge of Ghandi Ji and Hindu philosophy. If he were to born again even though he would not understand Gandhi Ji. It is very right that our great Philip Ziegler sahib has rightly said about the book "Any student of the period who accepted it as the whole truth would gravely misled; but he were to ignore it altogether he would be missing a statement of real important" He was in Indian Army but actually worked for Muslim League as is clear at page 57"Since I began my job here in Delhi in spite of that I did manage to go and see the Quad at his residence at 10Aurangzeb Road."There are many mistakes as given here.Page 77 name of Maulana Ability Kalam given as Kamal which is wrong. At page 114 mistake is of English language see last line.At page 131 the spelling of will is written wrong. The writer has only praised Mohd.Ali Jinha and General Sir Auc and he has provided wrong view of Congress Party and Gandhi. "In it he said that if a blood bath was necessary to achieve Independence, it would be welcomed"at page 99For Muslim League he has written"Wavell sincerely believe s that the Congress is dishonest. He has a very high opinion of the leaders of the League, their honesty, courage and dignity" Page 111 He was completely biased towards Congress Party and for his own personal gain he blatantly favoured Muslim League which is deplorable he being in Indian Army.Even though the book is interesting and is recommended for reading. I hope that the mistakes would be edited and be corrected in next edition. I relished it even many facts wrong.Ksc Mathura
