Unbeatable for the price
My friend wanted to get into surf fishing but had a low budget. I ordered this rod for him (9ft) and once I saw how awesome it was I ordered once for myself (10ft.)For the price, this rod is amazing. I ordered a different combo budget surf rod/reel setup for a different friend for about $45. That rod does not compare to this Black Beauty. The black beauty and its price is UNBEATABLE, and if you are an Amazon Prime member, expect the package in about a day!I paid around $25. If you are interested in surf fishing but want to feel it out first, order this rod! It has great action, is not stiff like I've seen other budget 10ft surf rods, and seems to be well made. PS- Amazon Prime is awesome, and half price if you have a student email address, free 2-day shipping is hard to beat.I use this rod to primarily fish bunker chunks, and as a low budget college student I couldn't be happier about the deal I got. The fish do not know what rod/reel I'm using, and as long as it does its job as intended, I am happy customer. Thanks Amazon Prime and Hurricane!

Good Surf Rod
Bought one a year ago and its still going strong. Good, fast action. Easy to cast. Wife loves it. Came back here to buy more, and noticed the price has gone up. Can't get a better surf rod for cheaper.

Great Value, great performance.
Have two 12 footers, mated with inexpensive Shakespeare Alpha170 reels and 20lb test cajun line, for surf fishing off Florida's Treasure Coast. Perfect rod for tossing out rigs on 4-6oz sinkers and sticking in a rod holder, for pompano, whiting, and small shark.Just got the 9 footer, mated with a cheap Shimano 4000 size FX spinning reel and 14 lb test cajun line, for triple hook rigs for sand perch and Pompana and whiting. They do the job and more. MUCH better than any $80 and under surf rod (to do better, you will have to spend 100 bucks plus for Star, Penn, etc). Not a precision rod you want to toss plugs with, it's a rod holder surf rod. They sit in the sand spikes, and I cast jigs with a much more expensive 9 foot rod and reel.Great value, and they last!

Arrived badly broken.
Might have been a good rod if it wasn't so badly broken. It was shattered in multiple places. According to several reviews, this is a common occurrence with this particular product. Spend the extra money on something else and avoid the headache.

Definitely money well spent
Just went to Doran beach, at Bodega Bay, and caught a nice crab with it. It is a big rod so expect not casting well the first few trips, but once I get use to it I will be able to launch way past the breakers for sure. The Grip is a rugged cork tape and feels like it will last a good long time before i need to change it again. The rod is nice and limber and helps with rocketing out crab snares, and most likely halibut rigs as well. I can imagine it holding up to some relatively large fish thanks to the amount of flex it brings, can't wait to catch a leopard shark with this pole. I will be pairing it with a Daiwa Opus Saltwater Spinning Reel when I can.

Awesome surf rod !
I got it delivered today around 1:00 and went out to the surf around 4:30. No luck until about 7:00, I ended up hooking up onto a 30lb striped bass, 39 inches long and took me about 10 min to bring and land it in on the beach...for the whole 10 min the rod held very good and was very responsive to every move the fish did....for the price I'd gotta give it 5 stars, no doubt about it.
