Station #1 is the rougher, more coarse to prep the blade for the Station #2, which finishing the sharpening of the blade.

There is a single sheet of instructions.

Q: Does it use back and forth motion or just back knife pull motion?

I go back and forth and it works. The knife is sharpened. This is my 2nd one I bought thru out the years.

Q: Does the handle lock open when in use, as well as lock closed

yes it does. you have to press the red circle is to release from the lock.
