Q: Will this work on a 1 inch wide chin strap?

No it 100% will not, the thing is like 7/8" wide and unless you have some Amazon branded helmet with a flimsy strap it will not fit. The argument I got from CS is to curl the strap... first of all no, that's more uncomfortable then never replacing the strap. Second curling the strap will change how it flexes when I need it most, like in a crash, where the helmet is indented to save my life.

Q: do they make one with a pull strap to unlock?

You don’t need a pull strap. With this one it’s easy (even with gloves) to unlock the strap.

Q: i have a shorty helmet and a lot of extra strap any ideas where to put it

I think every helmet will differ. I also had extra after sliding it thru the retainer clip (see the product video). Rather than cut it off, I have been able to tuck it between helmet and strap. I will cut it off eventually. The release has worked well for me a crazy, but cautious senior scooter rider.😎
