This is NOT a beginner kickboard. If you're looking for a full body raft, this is not it!
Nor is this a kid's kickboard just because it's much smaller than a typical kickboard. ----This is an amazing and incredible high-concept kickboard for those who know how to keep their body afloat and horizontal ( no sinking legs!) without dependency on any flotation device. This board will keep you lower in the water than your typical kickboard. It's the perfect size for me, and my arms have never been comfier as I glided up and down my public Olympic-size pool in pure bliss! OMG, do I love this thing!!!! Reading through the reviews here, it's obvious that there are larger swimmers who praise this board and larger swimmers who do not. I passed this board around to the big guys I swim with ( 6ft, 180, and up), and all of them could easily stay afloat and kick comfortably with no issues. No sinking, no problems. This board demands that you've got some skills and will put in some WORK to kick with it! If you want and/ or need a raft-like thing to keep you effortlessly afloat, save yourself the frustration, money, and time, and do not get this kickboard.

If you are a swimmer this is perfect
It has a nice shape where your arms go and grab the front. But unlike the more common kick boards this board dose not provide too much buoyancy so you are in a prefect position that is consistent with how you swim. If you like to climb up on a kick board this is not for your. It fits in my swim bag easily and is very light. So if you want to do a kick workout that does not sacrifice your normal shape while swimming this is for you. As we all know many people prefer to hold the front of the kick board and kick with their head way out of the water. Well you cannot do this with this board. In fact you can easily practice your head position when breathing and in fact this is the best way to breath because your head is not going to be totally out of the water, A great board.

Lightweight, small, and easy to use
I read other reviews and wasn't entirely sure about this kickboard, but it's been great so far. I'm not sure that it's ergonomically better than anything else I've used, but I wanted something smaller that would fit in my swimbag. I had a short moment about halfway down the pool where I shifted my weight and it went under, but you have to remember that this is NOT a personal flotation device - it simply helps keep me balanced while practicing my kicks. I do wish it would have been a color other than black, but I can definitely live with it since overall the board seems sturdy and does what I need it to do. Another Tyr product that just works and is a pretty good value.

The board fits perfectly into a mesh swim bag and comfortable to use
Works as advertised. The picture is a little deceiving as the indentation in the middle is not nearly as pronounced. The image makes it appear as thought the indentation is very deep; however, it is very shallow. The board fits perfectly into a mesh swim bag and comfortable to use.

lightweight and compact
I’ve swam competitively for years and have used all sorts of kickboards. This one isn’t my all time favorite but it is my favorite for day to day use when I’m shlepping it back and fourth to the pool in my gear bag. It’s compact so it fits neatly in the bag and it’s very lightweight. In the water it works well. I wish it was a bit longer so I could rest my entire arms below the elbow in it but it’s fine the way it is (keeps me from getting lazy during my kick sets). It glides through the water and has enough texture so I can keep my grip on it.

It's a kickboard. You kick with it.
I wanted a kickboard because I never count on getting one at my somewhat under-equipped YMCA pool. I felt like a schmuck for paying a bit more for a funny-shaped one, but wanted mine to "stand out" so it would be abundantly clear that I brought this from home and no one else would walk away with it. All I can really say is that it's a kickboard. It floats. It's not too buoyant, but I am 200 pounds, so that might have something to do with it. With a forceful crawl kick, it lets you rotate some to more accurately mimic a stroke, unlike a flat kickboard. That way, you activate your core a little more. But, at the end of the day, it's a kickboard, it floats, and you put it in front of you so you can kick- there's no need to introduce high technology into this.

Best kick board to practice your kicking on water. Pros : 1. I like the ergonomic shape which helps the water to pass through the curvy shape underneath of the board thus reduces the effort. 2. The board is made of high quality material and not just a regular foam due to which it gives a very good grip and doesn’t make it slippery. Cons: not complaining but I wish the board size could have been a little bit bigger but that’s not going to be a deal breaker.

With a flat board, I was struggling to breathe and keep my body horizontal when doing my leg kick exercises. This little wonder changed that from day 1. It somehow makes it easier to execute the kick as it allows my upper body movements (especially the move up to breathe) to be more in rhythm with the kick. The streamlining of the board "flows" better with the water instead of resisting it as with the flat board. With the convex side facing up, I found that I can basically rest my forearms on it with my upper arms at a 45-60 degree angle (the board will be below the waterline at this point) and that's a pretty relaxing position to be in. It's a bit similar to the Rayboard in that sense. I am 1.8m and 200lbs and I found the buoyancy just right.

My 9 year old son has two of these (he misplaced his first but has since been found). He looks so relaxed and comfortable using this kick board versus his team mates. When he originally lost the first board I asked if he wanted the same one or something else and he insisted on the same board.

Not buoyant enough

The TYR hydrofoil kickboard is the nicest kickboard i have used in a while. It is a good compromise on size; it isn’t too big or small. THe shape makes it easy to put your hands at the top of the board; and when you do the curved profile makes for a comfortable more natural swim as it encourages your body to roll as you go. 4* as my previous TYR kickboard pulled double duty as a kickboard and the new design doesn’t really allow for that.
