Q: Will this work for older MacBooks that only have a mini displayport, not thunderbolt?

Yes, this adapter cable will work on your MacBook (I'm about to buy one right now). Just note that, on the older MacBook Pros (near 2009 and earlier) the mini DisplayPort will only carry video and no audio. When I finally hook my old MacBook Pro to my big Monitor, I'll have the option to run a 3.5 jack audio cable into some RCA (red & white) audio inputs on the back of the monitor, or simply continue using my big living room speakers that my MacBook outputs to right now.

Q: Will this work to connect my dell screen with display port (version 1.2a) to a macbook pro early 2015 (thunderbolt 2)?

Yes it should be compatible, but you still need a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable to go between this adapter and the port on your monitor, one may have come with the monitor.
