Q: anyone know the space between the slats?

4 inches in between the wood slats, at least for queen

Q: Will this work with an ikea frame? Can you put a memory foam mattress right over it?

Not sure what would make an ikea frame different, but I put this right over a standard metal frame and the memory foam mattress directly on top. Works great and very comfortable!

Q: Can I use this instead of a box spring?

Yes!! To me, It’s sturdy and compatible to box spring.

Q: Can this be used on top of existing horizontal slats? the bed I have only has a vertical beam from top to bottom.

Thank you for these answers! I have this bunkie board on order to fit over the horizontal slats on a platform bed. My cats like to scratch between the slats and afraid they will damage my new mattress. This should do the trick. 😄
