Boasting a huge capacity, the Ridgemont Backpack's XXL size and 2 main compartments give consumers the most space for their buck. The Ridgemont features a padded laptop sleeve for up to a 15.4'' screen, a tricot-lined tablet sleeve, a tricot-lined Media Safe pocket, side water bottle pockets and a front zippered pocket with deluxe organization. The Load Spring shoulder strap system and air mesh back panel will help ease the load. 3-D embroidered brandmark.

Durable and lots of pockets, but not exactly as advertised
I've had this backpack for about a year-and-a-half and it's held up, save for some material on the shoulder that's ripping, but that doesn't really affect the function. My favorite part about this backpack is probably the laptop and tablet sleeves that are in the back pocket, and the small pocket on top, which I use for headphones and chargers. I also like that you can fit a ton of stuff into this backpack- kind of like a Mary Poppins bag. It has two water bottle pockets on each side, which I really like, and is something you can't find on a lot of other backpacks.I'm a college student, so this backpack is good for walking long distances. I've also used it as a carry-on on airplanes a number of times, and it fits nicely under airplane seats. However, there a several things that I had a problem with. One is that material on the shoulder is ripping, which I mentioned before. Another is that a lot of times while I'm walking around, the back pocket unzips by itself. In fact, in order to prevent that I now have a paper clip attached to the two back zippers. This backpack is also advertised as waterproof, which is one of the reasons I bought it. However, it is definitely not waterproof or even water resistant. Every time it rains and I'm walking around, the backpack gets wet, and often times the stuff inside the backpack gets wet too. Another thing is that the backpack kind of sags in a weird way. If you're walking around with something heavy, no matter how long or short you have the shoulder straps, this backpack will droop. A few days after I purchased this, I saw the same exact backpack somewhere else for cheaper.

Almost pretty good.
The bag itself is great, but the straps suck. Take a close look at the product pictures, the upper straps have something called Load Springs. The heavy strap material is replaced with a somewhat stretchy mesh material, the so called load springs I guess, and the two sections of heavy strap material are joined by pieces of cordura. The "load springs" don't stretch far enough to ever take the full weight of the bag off of stretchy material. For most people this will probably never matter. But for me, my pack rides in the back of a pickup truck, on the side of a camel, and occasionally on the handlebars of a goped. In less than a month my straps are badly frayed in the soft mesh stretch section and I doubt they will last a year. If this bag had a more traditional strap it would be a nearly perfect bag. I love the top pocket for stashing a phone and my wallet when going through airport security, and the second full height zipper pocket is a great place for a clipboard, or even a trapper keeper. It would be a four star bag if it had better straps.

Flimsy
I love the size of this backpack; it can hold a laptop and 4 maybe 5 textbooks. The three areas are large enough to fit folders and notebooks; the problem i had with most backpacks is that the front pocket is significantly smaller. I also love the handy pouch at the top to stick a phone or some gum or pens- anything you'd need in a hurry. However, I have experienced the backpack unzipping itself and this could be because of the heavy load in the back, but this is annoying. Also, one of my straps has started to fray in the middle where the "Load Spring" are is and has developed a hole. I don't think it will break because of the tough lining surrounding the strap, but it is worrisome. Another issue is that it looks big even when it's not filled up, which looks weird. All in all, this backpack is convenient because I can stuff so much inside of it, and for this I am thankfulUPDATEI've had this backpack for less than a year, and it's a mess! I HATE the "Load Spring" feature! This stretchy material just makes it slip down my back. Furthermore, one of the straps is fraying, and the other just broke. I was able to temporarily fix the strap by tying it and using duct tape, but I'm really disappointed. This bag is huge, but if it cant hold two textbooks and a couple notebooks without breaking, what's the point?

Amazon had the best price on this backpack so we went for it
My son just started Middle School and has been using this backpack for 1 week now. He loves it! When it arrived I was concerned it was going to be too big (it is really big) but he loves it. It holds all of his books, binders, a lunch, and will be able to hold a jacket/coat later in the year. It seems to be well made. Amazon had the best price on this backpack so we went for it. As long as it holds up well I am happy. I will post if there are changes. Oh, and shipping was on time. No problems.

durable
We've been using it for years, as a day to day school backpack, or travel bag. I like its durability and function. If you put in some folders or other heavy stuff at outer layer, you need to zip the zipper to one end, otherwise, the zipper tends to open up.

Highly recommended
My high school student has loads of binders to carry every day. We had another brand backpack before and the binders barely fit it.In this backpack he carries daily 4-6 binders, rectangular (about 4 inches thick) lunchbox, and PE shorts and shirt. Plus some other extra stuff as well. The backpack is roomy, with enough compartments. It does not feel as heavy on shoulders as it actually is, because of the strap design.Though I rated it 5 stars, here are the problems that we encountered:1. We bought white/gray/blue backpack. Each compartment is highlighted with its color. Because it has so many colors in it, the backpack looks very large. If I were to choose the backpack again, I would select a solid color, probably black, maybe with colorful zippers, but definitely not multicolored.2. The shoulder strap mesh separated from the strap within 3 months of use. The backpack itself is in good condition. It was loved and cared for; it was not abused or anything, but the "spring system strap" broke. The reason I still give the backpack 5 stars is because we called the manufacturer and they took care of the problem. With understanding that stuff happens we appreciate the good design, strong materials used for the product, and manufacturer's warranty. It is a great backpack.

It's a great backpack. However
It's a great backpack. However, it is very large, and sticks out very far from your back when being worn. It's good for travel. I wouldn't use it for school.

The backpack of my dreams!
This backpack is amazing. I'm the kind of person who likes to carry a ton of stuff with me just in case in addition to all my college books and binders.

and this one is working great for him
My son carries a lot in his backpack, and this one is working great for him. The straps help disperse the weight, and there is plenty of room for everything.
