MEGA Light

I was in the market for a waterproof camera for night kayaking. My local hardware store had this on sale and I decided to pick it up. I dropped it in a bowl of water to check the water proofing. Max 10-15!sec. It immediately filled with water behind the lens, making it very difficult to see. There was also water in the battery compartment. The batteries were warm to the touch. The packaging isn’t clear and states both “water proof” and “water resistant”. I’d be willing to accept that I misunderstood the meaning of water proof. But there are no instructions included to tell me otherwise. Even so, I wouldn’t think it could withstand a walk in the rain. 1 Star. All of that being said, I was seriously impressed with the beam of light when I tested it out first. It’s incredibly bright and doesn’t have the dark areas you typically see at the center of the beam. The zoom feature is nice and you can go from a wide beam to a more concentrated square that you can shine on to your neighbors trees on the other end of the block and still see the crisp outline of the beam. If I didn’t need it in wet situations, I would definitely recommend it. 5 stars. Unfortunately this will be returned tomorrow and I’ll most likely spend a few more dollars on a better brand that can live up to its water proof claim.
