Great Zombie Anime-but not ONE of the characters is likable
Seriously, this is well drawn, a top notch anime for detail and story. However-I couldn't finish it because the characters are all such awful people you just sit there hoping they all get eaten quickly so you'd have to hear or see them any more. mainly hear-holy moly these have to be the whiniest living making a stand against the undead set set of characters I have ever seen-and I am a huge fan of all zombie and living dead media.Okay to be fair-there is ONE decent person who actually tries at the beginning to help his friend before everything goes down the path to full living dead outbreak mode, but even he is whiney and annoying from the get go to the point you don't hate him but won't miss him when he is gone either. The rest of the living humans though would probably be better people as living dead ghouls out for human flesh. At least the whining and indecisive 'oh woe is me' nonsense stops at that point.

Is it bad I wasn't sad anyone died but a homeless guy?
I watched Train to Busan, about a month or so ago and I was in tears by the end. It was an amazing movie. And I'm not a zombie movie fan. I even cared about the jerk who was a total jerk.I saw the reviews for this and thought - I'll give it a try. It's the start of the zombies for the movie, just a different point of view in survival ... by the end of it - I mean, everyone was mostly a jerk. The things they did with zombies 30 feet away. I thought 'if you're that dumb, you deserve to die.'However, I did watch to the end which means it held my attention. You learn how petty people are. Homeless guy who got shot and the athletic man on the power line. Those two made me sad. It is a good story. The animation was good. The characters are real. But a few times I was thinking 'Americans (that's me) would have been like 'I better be quiet, so they don't kill me'. LOL! That and there has to be a shotgun somewhere near me.5 stars - while frustrating, the character of human nature is there. But it didn't bring me to tears like Train to Busan. It made me want to slap a few people. For that I can't dock any stars because that's how humans 'do'.Give it a try.

Well drawn and doomy gloomy — did not prefer the ending
Without spoiling much of anything, this is an apocalyptic zombie movie and it starts off slowly. The characters here are of no privileged status — desperate people living unhappily in an expensive city. As you’ve seen many times before in this scenario, something happens and a sickness spreads from one person to many more. And as people run for their lives, and fight off the hoardes of “fast zombies,” they begin to wonder what is left for them in such a scenario. A young woman is at the heart of the story, and despite her poor family and relations she still wishes to get back to the people she knows. The police and government forces get involved and — well, I did not prefer this ending to this story. It is well made and anime style with fewer frames than a Disney effort. But the coloring and settings and action are all well done. Its worth watching if you are looking for a zombie fix. But I did not feel satisfied with the final plot line.Trigger warning: There is content of a sexually abusive manner involved.

Good movie salty reviews.
Excelent zombie flick with a few nice twists in the drama. See alot of salty reviews for this too which are pretty much unwarented arm chair criticisms coming from people who were either for some reason expecting the best film in the world just don't have the aptitude to be able to enjoy real personalities in characters. No the abused runaway is not the mentally strongest character. No the crazy homeless guy doesn't speak and think like a rational individual. Yeah the guard forced to deal with a homeless problem on a nightly basis has become jaded towards them and ignores most of they say. It's not a social commentary, it's a zombie flick chronicling the beginning spread of the zombie outbreak and how a bureaucratic governments slow reaction speed to the event played into its spread. Also this a mature themed animation meaning if you are a kid or have the emotional or mental maturity of a kid you probably shouldn't watch it. But if you have the ability to get lost in a good story and the maturity to view adult material and respond to it as a rational adult would, then by all means sit back and enjoy this tale of pimps, hoes, sex, blood, and zombies.

what a dark, dark story
The movie brings you into the lives of these characters, who've lived dark lives up to this point, and then the filmmaker turns out the lights.

Not for kids
I watched this after discovering it was a prequel of the South Korean movie Train To Busan, which I loved. I hoped it would answer some questions that the movie did not, mainly how did the outbreak start. It didn't, it just leaves you with more questions. If you never heard of TTB you would not know this was supposed to be the prequel. They are too entirely different stories. There is nothing to connect the two movies other than the fact that they are both about zombie outbreaks in Seoul. The female lead was annoying. She did nothing but cry and depend on men to save her.Her boyfriend was even worse, crying at every turn but he at least redeemed himself in the end. The plot twist at the end startled me. I didn't see it coming. If you watched this thinking it would be like Train to Busan, you'll be disappointed. But its not a bad zombie movie on its own. If I had seen this first I would have liked it But as a fan of TTB I was disappointed. Even though this is an animated cartoon, it is not for children. There are plenty of adult situations not suitable for kids. There is violence.blood and gore, and although there is no direct sex or nudity, it is implied. I wouldn't let kids under 13 watch it.

A decent prequel to a much stronger film
(A full in-depth review of Seoul Station will hopefully be available soon on my own film & TV review site - link in my Amazon profile!)When I first watched Train To Busan in 2016, I fell in love with it. It remains one of my favourite zombie films, one of my favourite films of 2016, and... just one of my favourite films in general. I knew Seoul Station followed Train To Busan rather soon afterwards as an animated prequel, but never got around to watching it. However, with the release of the Peninsula sequel, I thought I'd get a complete experience and watch the films together as a trilogy.Going in, I kept my expectations tempered as most reviews were much more lukewarm towards Seoul Station than they were to Train To Busan. I had a feeling I was in a for a very different beast, and that's more or less what I got. Seoul Station lacks the tight claustrophobia of Train To Busan, instead depicting the outbreak and early stages of the zombie hoards throughout Seoul. In many ways, things are a lot more politically charged here, retaining the same undertones of class conflict and exploring prejudices towards those who are homeless. It's truly bleak too, especially in its last ten minutes. While I obviously don't want to spoil anything, the ending pulls the rug from under your feet with a cruel twist. I wouldn't exactly call Train To Busan's ending a happy one, but it did ended with a note of hope. There's none of that here this time, and you're in for something much more nihilistic.Perhaps the most prominent shortcoming of Seoul Station is in its presentation, rather than its story. See, you'd be forgiven for expecting Seoul Station to be a much more low-key affair with its considerably lower budget than Train To Busan. However, that's not really the case and with the quality of the animation at times, it's hard to escape the feeling that it's ambition exceeds what it could get away with. The animation's fine generally, but it does have its moments where it ends up looking a bit ropey. Maybe it bites off a little more than it could chew, but all the same it's brief enough that it's hardly a bad time. Far from it in fact, and while I wouldn't call this essential viewing, if you have watched Train To Busan and want to spend a little bit more time in its universe, then maybe give this a go.

Excellent
Although a later release, this is the prequel for the brilliant film Train To Busan. Although I am not generally a big fan of subtitled films, I loved that one so I wanted to see this too. It's an excellent companion to the main story, it's beautifully animated, dark and moving. It works fine as a stand alone piece, but is definitely enhanced when you know the main film.

Underwhelming and insular story..
I watched this after Train to Busan (5* review) and was pretty underwhelmed, the storyline was passable but nothing out of the ordinary and the animation static, I was expecting some sort of prequel explaining the outbreak but this is just a story about a handful of pretty unlikable "survivor's" none of which I found myself investing any emotion in. The possibilities with animation are endless as regards scope but this had none..Disappointing..

Saw the original film Last Train To Busan in 4D and loved it so when I saw this I thought I would give it a try and even though it's an animated prequel it's still great way over the top fun, so give it a try
