Great For Bird Baths
COSSCCI 1.8W Solar Fountain Water Pump: I've been buying these little Solar pumps for a years now. The previous ones were 1.5W, and they all worked great. But, really like this 1.8W version for my bird-bath. My previous ones broke down from small animals eating through the wiring when exposed or damaging the solar panel. I live in Ga, so generally no freezing weather. It stays out there year round. And they have last for at least a good 2 years. The way I have mine setup (sun factor) in the height of summer it typically comes on around 2:30pm runs to about 7:00pm (of course, it only runs when there is full sun). For those interested, I dug a small hole that fits a 5-gallon round plastic pond. I placed a cinder block in the middle, to support the weight of the bird-bath. On top of the plastic pond, I formed a chicken-mesh wire type fencing and on top of it lays "black fabric" (the weed barrier in flower gardens). Then placed garden rocks. This all for filtering and it works great (all bought from Lowes). Also, around the base of the pond I placed a black plastic garden border, that's there just to help keep weed/grasses from creeping into the pond itself. The black water tubing (its about 18 to 24 inches) was bought at Autozone, I think its a fuel line hose, very sturdy. I took the small pump with me and fitted whatever hose that best fit snugly onto the nozzle. I had this set up for about 5 years, probably longer. The only thing I needed to replace is the pump every now & then. Oh also, I made a small gate like access the small brick & is where I have it positioned (see pic), makes it easy to replace the pump and for cleaning. But, rarely have to clean any actual debris. I also made access hole large enough to feed the tubing and the wiring to the pump from the solar panel. As for water, I do check it daily for the most part and add just a bit of water everyday, but it should last a 3 days or so...but why chance it running dry an ruining the pump. And whenever I'm gonna be away for days. I flip over the panel or place it in plastic bag and put a rock on it. And one last note. I wanted my water to run fall in a certain direction instead of the entire bath area so I place a small flat-type rock underneath to top of the part of the bath to have it lean just slightly to where I wanted the water run-off to go.

Disappointed in quality and endurance
I received this little kit yesterday. At first inspection the solar panel was scratched deeply in several places, but I hoped it would not affect the kit so I went ahead, submerged it and took outside to test. It worked, so I set to work on the little fountain I was setting up outside. I got all the rocks in place and it looked very cute. I live in a hot, sunny location with direct sun, but after only 10 minutes this thing stopped working. No matter which way I turned it, there was no longer any power to the pump. I took everything apart, and tried my initial test, but no results. When it did work it produced very little suction, the trickle was quite low pressure. This is a very small unit, I used the 3/8" tubing with it on just the standard output (not the spray) and made sure the water was recycling back in to the pump area so it didn't dry out. If it had remained working, I would have given it 3 stars because of the scratches and also because of the low water output.

Working well - update
It's great value for the money. It works well to pump our cascading fountain in the garden (about a 14" height through 1/2" tubing. Trying to mount the panel inconspicuously and solidly is difficult as there is no bracket. I figured it out with an old hinge, double sided tape that was laying around, and mounted it to a fence post. But, it sure beat running electric to where the wife wanted to put the fountain!Update: Like other customers the fountain stopped working after about 2 weeks. The pump stopped turning. I looked at the comments from the seller on the 1 star reviews and followed their troubleshooting advice - to no avail. I then e-mailed the seller as per their comments on those poor reviews. They were prompt in reply, gave me a 99% discount code to order a replacement without having to return the failed pump, and two days and $.15 later the new unit arrived. It is up and running as of today. We'll see what happens, but the seller did all they could to make it right and I'm still giving it 5 stars for the great customer service on this inexpensive fountain.

Great for a pond or fountain thatâs not near electrical
We recently installed a small pond in our backyard, but didnât want to go to the hassle of running power to that corner of the yard. Weâve had this pump running for about two weeks now and itâs been running without major issues. In full sun, it is actually quite powerful. We tested it in an old dishpan and it emptied it out in a few minutes. (Note: we initially tried testing under indoor light and it did nothing, so it really does need real sunlight). If you want this for a shady location, it will not work. Also, during cloudy weather it will either stop working, have low flow, or just work intermittently. And obviously will not work at night as there is no battery.I wish this pump had an extender rod so that the pump could be placed lower in the pond. The fountain attachments are quite short so it needs to be kept near surface of the water if you want it to spray like a fountain. If you want it to just circulate water, then this isnât an issue. Also, it needs a good surface to suction cup onto, as the frequent changes in flow cause it to vibrate and move if it isnât attached well. I glued a piece of bathroom tile to a rock and that has given it a good foundation. Also be warned that the solar panel itself doesnât have any kind of mounting bracket, so you will either have to just sit it somewhere or figure out how to mount it on your own. I used a combination of zip ties, double sided foam tape, a bracket I found in the garage, and a tomato stake to fashion something that would work. The cord is 10â long, so as long as the solar panel is kept low to the ground you should be able to place it away from your pond or fountain. My only other real complaint is that the pump will restart itself in the morning or after clouds pass by without issue, but if you walk by its solar panel and block the light just momentarily, it will not restart automatically. In these cases I have to block the light for several seconds and then move for it to restart.
