The Tenant [McFadden, Freida] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. The Tenant Review: Wow! - I love the writing style of Freida, how the story grabs you right away & keeps you hooked until the end. And all the twists & turns definitely make you think. Just WOW! Review: “Trust no one… except Goldy.” - Freida McFadden does it again—delivering a fast-paced psychological thriller packed with chaos, questionable choices, and characters that make you want to throw the book across the room (in the best way possible). The Tenant is a wild ride of multiple POVs, which I always love for the layered storytelling and added suspense. From page one, you’re sucked into a train wreck you can’t look away from. The male main character? Maddening. Dumb. So incredibly annoying that I wanted to scream. The female lead? Way too obliging for her own good—but when the final pieces fall into place, it’s honestly hilarious how twisted it all gets. This one is classic Freida: unreliable characters, tension that never lets up, and a plot that leaves you second-guessing everything. It’s a quick read, full of “WTF” moments, where you’ll catch yourself yelling at the characters to make literally any better decision. And when it comes to trust? Don’t. Just don’t. Except for Goldy. Goldy is the real MVP. While not my all-time favorite from McFadden’s growing list of addictive thrillers, The Tenant still delivers on the drama, the dysfunction, and the signature Freida flair. Perfect for when you need a fast, unputdownable dose of chaos.

Solid airport book. Nothing to write home about
The storyline was good but the character development wasn’t great. The main character was a 30 something white man with a Marketing career. But his actual personality read like a college aged woman to me. And the career wasn’t convincing. I think she needed to take it a step deeper with the characters. I think this is a great airport read but nothing to write home about.

Holy twists!
Didn’t expect the twists. What a good book! I also like how it was mostly told by Blake & then a mixup of Blake/Krista/Amanda at the end because sometimes I get confused when it’s a new person telling their story each chapter

Dark Secrets and Twisted Tenants
Freida McFadden delivers a taut psychological thriller in The Tenant that kept me alternately intrigued and unnerved from start to finish. The premise—a psychologically complex new tenant moving into a long-ago crime scene—feels fresh, and McFadden builds the tension expertly, weaving red herrings and unreliable narration into a narrative tapestry that’s impossible to put down. What I loved: • Atmosphere & Pace: Every creak of the old house and every hint of dark history is vividly realized, pulling you deeper into the unfolding mystery. • Complex Characters: Both the tenant and the homeowners are multi-layered and unpredictable—just when you think you know who’s trustworthy, the rug gets pulled out from under you. • Twists & Turns: The plot keeps you guessing, and while one or two developments are a bit familiar, the final reveal packs enough punch to feel satisfying. Where it could improve: • The sheer number of twists, while thrilling, occasionally teetered toward overcomplication. A slight trim might have sharpened the impact. • Some secondary characters could use more depth—they serve the plot but don’t quite stay in your head after you close the book. Final thoughts: The Tenant is an absorbing, suspenseful read that will appeal to fans of psychological dramas and secret‑filled thrillers. It nails the eerie, atmospheric tension and delivers a finale that justifies the ride. If you’re looking for a twisty, page‑turner you can devour in a weekend, this is a solid choice—and a 4‑star one at that.

WOWY Wow WOWZA
This book completely messed with my head in the best way. Frieda McFadden delivers a fast-paced psychological thriller that pulls you in, makes you feel confident about what you “know,” and then quietly flips everything upside down. The tension builds steadily, the characters keep you questioning motives, and just when you think you’ve figured it out… nope. The twists come fast, sharp, and unapologetically. The final chapters had me rereading pages just to make sure I didn’t miss something and that ending? Absolutely unhinged. This is one of those books where you immediately rethink the entire story once you’re done. Creepy, clever, and impossible to put down. If you like thrillers that leave you stunned and staring at the wall after the last page, this one delivers. Highly recommend just don’t expect to sleep much once you get close to the end. 🔥😵💫📖

Nice twist
Loved the twist at the end. Not her best writing but still not bad. Thoroughly enjoyed it and would always be a fan

love this author and her work
Perfect plot twists. I love that she writes easy reads that I can read while I’m chasing my kid around and I don’t have to reread chapters to know what’s going on.

Another amazing read by Freida McFadden. Poor Blake lost his job, is fighting with his fiance, and on top of that can't pay the bills or the mortgage on his townhouse. Enter the beautiful whitney, who seems like the perfect tenant. Until she moves in. If you're a fan of Freedom McFadden, or John Marrs, you will surely love this book as well.

It is a very creative story with unexpected events. I enjoyed the way it was written as it presented a good flow to the plot and kept my curiosity alive.

l've read quite a few Freida McFadden books now, possibly all of them, and while I've always enjoyed the twists and tension she's known for, I'll be honest; the last couple didn't hit quite as hard for me. I started to feel like I knew what was coming, which took the edge off a bit. But The Tenant? She's back. This one had that sharp, unsettling energy I loved in her earlier work. I found myself properly hooked again, second-guessing everything and everyone. The pacing was spot on, the twists were layered without being over the top, and I didn't see the ending coming, which is exactly what I want from her. It felt like Freida had returned to the kind of storytelling that made me obsessed with her books in the first place. If, like me, you've been feeling a little 'meh' about her recent ones, l'd say give this a go, it's a proper return to form.
