Darn good question BUT why would you want to?. This is a unit that sits in your computer tower. Looking at it ( I have it in my taller tower) it is functional and works well. The answer is that you probably are going to need an external power supply to add to the bulk of what you already have. are you wanting to use this with a tablet or laptop?. Each hard drive has its own interface and for this one 4. Yes you can get up to 7 USB interfaces but there is going to be 4 data cables and at least 2 power. Do you relay want this? I would say if you are putting it into a fixed desktop system then fine BUT if you want portable this is not the choice for you. Put the money away for a large disk and BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP. I wil
l tell you now ---you have NOT backed up until you have 3(three) copies of your data.

Hi,

It comes with 4 Standard SATA Cables that you will need four spare slots on your motherboard. Whene I tried it on my first machine although it had enough slots it ran out of memory even though I had 48GB Ram, I also had 2 Blu Ray Recorders + 3 HDD + 1 SSD as well. Then I change my PC and I have 128GB Ram and it works fine but I have plugged it in to the SAS ports and still run as SATA.

None. The photographs clearly show Molex power, not SATA.

Can this be used to swap boot drives?

Depends on what you have in mind. I use mine in a raid configuration so yes you can have multiple  boot drives. You can write from one disk to another so you can copy one disk to another, ie clone with appropriate software.
In my raid 1 system I have two boot drives, drive C and a copy in raid system I also have a spare raid drive that automatically copies the boot disk to the spare should one of the raid drives fail, thus keeping the raid system live, while it is then a simple task of removing the faulty drive and replacing without removing any of the case parts etc.
