I cannot stress enough how wonderful books with no words and beautiful illustrations are for the cognitive and language development of young children. Without focusing on a strict storyline (although the pictures and scenes in this book definitely connect to one another) children are able to really look and observe all of the little details that are happening on each page. I especially love that in these books (it was the same in the "Autumn" one, so I'm assuming it runs throughout the series) that there is a two-page spread of a lovely illustration depicting a seasonal scene, and then the following spread has little vignettes that show what happened next from the previous page. For example, one spread in this book shows the backyard of the family, with a child rolling up a large snowball, and another placing food in a large birdfeeder. In the vignettes on the following page, one is a snowman made from the snowball and other accessories that were in the yard on the previous page, and another is the birdfeeder with various creatures enjoying the treats placed there. My daughter, who is almost 3, loves these books, and so do the children in the morning playgroup that I run a few days a week. We will definitely be purchasing the spring and summer books in this series as those season approach! Review: One of the best picture books for 18 months old - My toddler and I love books without words. We have many of them, and this one is one of the best. I find it perfect for smaller kids, because there is less going on on each page, compared to other picture books. Note that the illustrations are not bright but rather made in a somewhat pale style, with soft colors, which may not be to everyone's liking. I also love how thick the pages are in this edition. We have Spring and Summer from the Slovak publisher, and the pages are a tiny bit larger and thinner there.

Perfect for multilingual kids
My son is being raised trilingual (my husband and I speak different native languages, in addition to English). One of my biggest problems was reading books to my son - most books that he has are in English. I often would have to switch languages on him, when he'd bring me a book to read. These books, however, have no text, and the situations that they describe are universal - hence, perfect for multilingual kids. I can talk about the scenes in whatever language I am talking to the child at the time, and am also able to present the same set of words in different languages. The pictures are very detailed and realistic. There's also a nice progression in each season depicted. For e.g, winter starts with the first snow and then on to children playing, family time indoors and outdoors, Christmas preparations, and the first crocus blooms under the snow signaling the end of winter.

Best Books!
We discovered this series about 20 years ago. My kids have loved them to death. I recently bought them for my grand daughter. They are my go-to preschooler gift too.

This is a sweet book, I got it for my youngest that has speech delays. He loves to look at the book and point to the details, colors - even when it's not winter, he loves to curl up with me and read this.

Beautiful book!
This series of seasons books by Gerda Muller were highly recommended by other parents. I can't be happier with them. There are no words/plot, just engaging scenes of children doing seasonal activities. My two year old can't get enough of them. The pictures are so active and full of detail that they capture his imagination and he pours over the pictures and talks about what he sees. This is a wonderful way to introduce seasons to a child.

Interesting, detailed illustrations
This is a book with no text just very detailed illustrations of winter scenes you can talk about. I enjoy looking through it with my little one. Took off one star because there is no diversity among the people depicted in the book which is disappointing.

Petit livre qui nous parle de l’hiver à travers divers illustrations. Même si la quatrième de couverture est en anglais c’est pas gênant car il n’y a pas de texte dans le livre. Livre magnifique

We're collecting one each season as our little ones loves these books! The pictures are beautiful and relect lots of the sorts of things going on at home. We particularly liked the move from Christmas to Spring on the last page, which made the transition of taking down the tree and lights a bit easier (as someone was a little upset). Lovely that you can make up our own narratives and especially enjoyable by those far to young to read books or cope with involved stories. Our little one will quite happily 'read' this on her own

No words, just beautifully painted and carefully crafted illustrations that invite you to get creative and storytell. Therefore is great for babies as is for older kids. Each page shares a seasonal scene or two we talk about or play "I spy".
