Monster gaming CPU – fast, smooth and surprisingly efficient
I’m using the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D in a new AM5 build and it’s been excellent so far, especially for gaming. Paired with a high-end GPU, it just flies – frame times are smooth, 1% lows are noticeably better than my previous CPU, and heavy titles feel more consistent, not just “higher FPS on paper.” The big selling point is obviously the 3D V-Cache, and it really shows in CPU-heavy or open-world games. Load times and general responsiveness in Windows are also snappy, and it handles background tasks, recording and browsing while gaming without any drama. Thermals and power consumption are very reasonable for the performance. With a decent air or AIO cooler and a good case, temps stay under control and noise levels are easy to keep low. Setup on AM5 was straightforward – drop it in, update BIOS, enable EXPO for RAM and you’re basically done. If you’re building a gaming-focused rig and want one of the best “plug in and enjoy” CPUs without spending crazy flagship money, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is a brilliant choice.

The benchmark CPU in 2026
The performance jump in games was noticeable right away. Frame rates are super smooth, and it handles more demanding titles without breaking a sweat. The 3D cache really seems to make a difference, especially in CPU-heavy games. It also handles multitasking really well. I can game, stream, and have a bunch of stuff open in the background without things slowing down. Temps have been solid with a decent cooler, and it’s been completely stable so far. Installation was straightforward, dropped right into my AM5 board with no issues. Overall, this chip feels like a beast for gaming and everyday use. Definitely happy with the upgrade.

Unbelievable performance for gaming
At time of writing I’ve had this CPU for around 6 months. Installation is easy, in my case I got a recent motherboard so didn’t even need to do a BIOS update to get the CPU to be recognised. I paired this with a good quality air cooler and it’s been easy to keep temperatures comfortably cool. Because it’s a recent CPU and is pretty efficient, you can do that without creating a ton of fan noise. The performance has been superb, it’s expensive for sure but it’s handled everything I’ve thrown at it so far with very consistent framerates. Ultimately, your mileage may vary depending on what you pair it with, so be sure to research beforehand and pick a GPU and other components that compliment it well.

Built for Speed, Tuned for Gamers
I recently upgraded to the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, and it’s been an absolute beast for gaming. With 8 cores, 16 threads, and a massive 104MB cache thanks to the 3D V-Cache, it chews through demanding titles like nothing. I paired it with a high-end GPU, and the frame rates at 1080p are insane—especially in competitive games where low latency really matters. The Zen 5 architecture feels snappy, and the boost clock hitting 5.2 GHz gives it serious punch. It runs cool enough with a decent air cooler, though I’d recommend something solid since it’s got a 120W TDP. No bundled cooler, but that’s expected at this level. It’s not the cheapest chip out there, but if you’re building a rig for high-performance gaming and want something that’ll stay relevant for years, this one’s a winner. I haven’t seen a single stutter since switching.

Great CPU for AAA gaming
I bought this CPU to use in my new gaming computer build. I cannot fault it for my use, rarely goes above 25% cpu usage while gaming on modern AAA titles. The vendor is entirely trustworthy, there are a number of knock off copies of AMD chips circulating and if you want to be sure of the genuine article then you will be safe with this vendor

AMD has deleted Intel when it comes to gaming with this chip
Recently upgraded my build to the following: CPU: 9800X3D Motherboard: X870E AORUS PRO Graphics Card: Powercolor Hellhound 7900 XTX CPU Cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO Memory: 32GB DDR5 6000MHZ CL30 XPG Lancer Blade RAM Case: Antec C8 (fanless version) PSU: CORSAIR RM1000x Gold Efficiency Monitor: Gigabyte 27" 4K UHD 160Hz AdaptiveSync HDR IPS Gaming Monitor Testing was done with settings as they were straight out of the box-only changes were enabling Expo in BIOS. Bought the chip as I succumbed to temptation lol (previously had a 7800X3D). And it's actually made more of a difference than I thought. Playing World of Warcraft, it's made a major difference with the 1% lows. I used to get some stutter with my 7800X3D in certain areas-felt laggy, but since swapping out I'm yet to experience any form of dip in performance. It feels so fluid, just great to play. And Overwatch 2, the perfomance is so much better as well. Baldur's Gate 3 - buttery smooth. Temps are perfectly fine as well, peak being 85 degrees in Cinebench 24 with a score of 1346 (multicore), and the temperature never going above 75 degrees in normal heavy gameplay sessions. Don't have a regret buying this chip-it's the ultimate gaming processor.

Gaming on your PC? Get this.
Best CPU I've ever owned. After being an Intel user for decades I thought it was about time I tried the other side. I play on a 4k 240hz monitor and although this didn't really improve my framerates. It did noticeably improve my 1% lows. If you're buying this though, you've already done the research and know its good.

AMD a frappé fort !
