Magic Tree House Boxed Set, Books 5-8

Really great series with lots of adventures and a web site where kids can go on missions. If you have a kid that isn't a keen reader, I imagine these would be fabulous. I have bought them for a lot of kids as birthday presents and loaned them out and they are hugely popular. They have been around a long time but are an American series and have not caught on in the UK. Highly recommend and check out the fact finder books that go with them. Each book in the series has a topic (dinosaurs, planets, etc) and there is a companion on that topic as well. There is also a different series that follows.

7yr old grandson keeps asking for this series of books after coming across one (English edition) at school. He understands that the spelling is sometimes different(these are American edition), reads them very quickly and soon will have read 1-28. I shall just continue getting the higher reading level ones-wonder if he will notice the difference. The non-fiction books are very good too.

My son loves these stories, as he is only six we tend to do most of the reading but the wording is simple enough for him to read to us too. We have read 1-4 and are now finished 5-8 and reading number 9!

My six years old enjoy reading the stories to herself and chuckles aloud at times. Always want to tell me her version with enthusiaim.

I remember reading this series when I was a kid and thought it would be fun to read to my boys (6 and 4). Now that my oldest is in kindergarten, we've been doing reading logs and this seemed like the easiest and most fun way to get my kids to love reading. I've never read any chapter books to them yet so this was a first for us. And I was SHOCKED at how well they sat and listened and wanted to keep reading to find out what happens next. It also helps it's all the things they love like dinosaurs, knights and pirates. It's been fun for me too to read to them and connect with them. I didn't enjoy reading as a kid but I hope to teach my kids to love reading.

I bought this as a gift for a neighbours little girl and she absolutely loves the set. The Magic Tree House is a great read for grade 3 students as well as proficient younger readers as it combines history and fact with adventure and a touch of magic. These books are great for reluctant readers and are a good introduction to chapter books as they are short easy reads. Not just a good read but also a learning tool.

The stories are patronisingly simplistic and badly written, my 5 year old paid attention while I read to him but won't be asking me to repeat the stories which for me is always a nd sign.
