Kindle Fire HD 8 Plus Review: Affordable Performance with a Few Trade-offs
The Kindle Fire HD 8 Plus is Amazon’s value-driven tablet that punches above its weight class in several key areas—especially price. Designed for casual media consumption, light productivity, and Alexa integration, this tablet finds a sweet spot for budget-conscious users.🔹 Pros:+ Great Value:At under $120, the Fire HD 8 Plus offers a solid feature set that rivals tablets twice its price. It’s a perfect entry-level option or secondary device.+ Solid Build Quality:Despite the plastic shell, the tablet feels durable and sturdy in hand. It’s compact and lightweight, making it ideal for travel or kids.+ Improved Performance:With 3GB RAM (an upgrade from the standard Fire HD 8’s 2GB), the Plus model handles multitasking and app switching better. For casual use—streaming, reading, browsing—it performs smoothly.+ Wireless Charging & USB-C:Wireless charging support is a standout feature in this price range. USB-C also means faster charging and modern compatibility.+ Alexa Show Mode:Turns the tablet into a smart display, essentially giving you an Echo Show experience when docked or placed on a stand.🔸 Cons:– Fire OS Limitations:Fire OS is essentially a modified Android, and it heavily pushes Amazon’s ecosystem. Without the Google Play Store (unless you sideload it), app selection is limited.– Display Quality:The 8" HD screen is serviceable, but not remarkable. It’s a bit reflective, with modest resolution (1280x800), which can feel dated compared to modern tablets.– Camera and Speakers:The 2MP front and rear cameras are basic, best used for quick video calls or scanning documents. Speakers are average—fine for personal listening, but nothing immersive.🔹 Best For:Casual users who want a reliable tablet for streaming, eBooks, light browsingAmazon Prime members who can maximize integrationParents looking for a kid-friendly device (with optional Kids+ subscription)Budget shoppers who don’t need flagship specsVerdict:The Kindle Fire HD 8 Plus offers excellent value for its price, especially if you’re already in the Amazon ecosystem. It’s not a productivity powerhouse, but for media, reading, and light apps, it does the job admirably. The wireless charging and added RAM make it a worthy upgrade over the base model.

Best deal for a budget tablet
I have been looking for an entry level tablet for about 3 months was doing a lot of research into specific models I was looking for a basic media and web surfing w email one day I opened up the Amazon app and saw a pre Prime day sale I already was planning on buying one on Prime anyway when I saw it was only 54.99 I was soldBecause I had already done my research and this was on the list I must say I absolutely love this table it handles everything I throw at it with ease and I have no problem s at all with proformance I'm happy with the build quilty it is plastic but if your using a case it does not matter my expectations were actually blow away with this one I'm super impressed with it especially for 34.99 after my credit is buy it again for sure I recommend itT to anyone that needs a media tablet its not going to play computer gamers I like the grey as well the screen is perfect size and looks great what a deal !!!!!!

I have bought several of these tablets because I read and watch Amazon Fire TV every day. Very economical for a retired person. You can call for assistance 24 hours a day.

same ol...
Third and last purchase.Owned the original fire, then the first 8 inch model and then the 8 inch hd.Pros:priceit works as it shouldis durable, can take some abuse such as drops and spillsgood sound & display qualityCons:Filled with nonremovable bloatware and amazon apps that you don't really need and have no choice about.locked to amazon app store unless you sideload, jailbreak or take the time to figure out which version of google playisnt blocked so you can access the plethora of apps on google. All in all, out of the box this is a good, affordable tablet for basic use.It can be made into a better experience by voiding the warranty and breaking amazon TOS, just saying...I have discovered the cheap Chinese tablets that have more ram and zero bloatware or apps preinstalled and won't be coming back to the Fire.

Love my kindle
Great except I forget Black Friday was a thing a bought it a week before it went on sale. I’ve always loved kindles and was excited to get a new one since the one I had was almost 10 years old. I swear these things are invincible. I don’t use cases because I don’t want it too bulky and have never so much as scratched the screen. Great quality. I love that it can be kid friendly as well as the games that are available for download. This would be a great gift for a loved one or yourself.Great for travel. Used for reading, games, YouTube, photos, or any streaming services

Great little tablet!
Got this as a back up tablet (we generally use iPads). It’s much better than I thought it’d be! I’ve gotten other tablets that are android that were honestly terrible! This one is amazing compared to those. Especially the price.

A good buy.
The amazon fire has been much better as far as buffering on Hulu, Netflix, and Prime video than my more expensive laptop I just bought that was called lightning fast. Makes no sense. Believe me it was much more expensive than the fire. Glad I bought it. Very clear picture for movies. The sound is better than many computers costing more.

WON'T STAY CONNECTED
I've had real problems with this unit staying connected to WiFi. Everything else in my house, (phone, computer) staysconnected. Unfortunately, this loses the connection often. I returned it for a new unit and the same thing happens. Very frustrating.
