Perfect Versatile little stands
These magic arms come in so handy for anything that you might need one for. I've used them to hold speakers, cameras, phones etc. They are small but have a huge reach meaning they have wide range of positions to hold your kit in. They are really competive in price and certainly worth it. I have bought 3! Unlike previous stands that I've used, these have great grip and with the dual thread, it makes it really quick to lock them off onto the object. They are really solid, built of metal so can withstand a lot of weight too.

The ball joints don't lock.
The ball joints at each end doesn't lock, so there is no stabilisation.

Good quality, but needs very tight adjustment for L-shaped setups
I bought this to hold an LED streaming lamp. The build quality is good and it is generally good value for money. However, be aware that there are certain angles where it will not grip securely or stay stable. If you want to use it in an L-shaped position, you have to tighten it extremely firmly. Even then, the arm can still move forwards and backwards, almost like it is flapping, because the ball joint relies purely on friction and has no locking mechanism to stop movement. It works, but it needs a lot of tightening and careful positioning to keep it steady at sharper angles.

Would buy again
Actually really good, I use magic arms at work and needed something at home but smaller and cheaper, I wasn’t expecting much but I was extremely impressed. Fantastic value for money. The locking joint means that it’s as stable as whatever you attach it to. The clamps are good quality too and you can really wrench down on them.

Robust, versatile, clever locking mechanism
Ok, lets deal with the elephant in the room. It's not really magic. It is however, as many other reviewers have stated, a really clever and useful design. I don't know who came up with this specific design originally but I take my hat off to you. This clamping, articulated arm can be positioned and then locked in place by tightening a single wing nut at the elbow. When tightened it pulls everything together so that the ends and elbow all lock up tight. I used this to clamp a camera to my shed for surveillance while I was away. The clamp opens up plenty wide enough for most applications. The arm and camera stayed perfectly and solidly in place for more than a week with no sign of weakening. The only issue I had was that it rained and some water ended up sitting in the elbow joint causing some surface rust. This happened very quickly. I cleaned this off using wire wool and then applied some silicon grease to all the joints to protect them. This is a compact and very useful arm which has a multitude of potential applications. It has a standard tripod mount thread and a second slightly larger thread. There are a number of adaptors included. One of these is a plate which appears to be an adaptor to allow the arm to be attached to your camera's Hotshoe. I'm not sure I would normally be attaching something so heavy to this but others may be more familiar with newer techniques and equipment that require this. This arm would be an invaluable piece of kit for travelling, especially if you like to do long exposures.

Maybe built to a price but adequate and works okay.
This is the ‘traditional’ design magic arm in that both ends are controlled/tighten up by the central, elbow wing nut. It comes in a plain cardboard box together with a clamp with both standard ¼ and 3/8 threads for use with assorted accessories plus a cold shoe - see photos. The specified payload is quoted as being 2 kilos but I wouldn’t personally like to risk anything near that weight on it due to the engineering/manufacturing quality might be a little bit at best optimistic but this my own personal opinion but for lightweight field monitors, small lights or a microphone I would be happy to use this with them. I think the price reflects the basic quality of this gadget although for light use, it has merit in your camera bag as compared to another similar item size for size, from another manufacturer I use, does show a marked difference and is sturdier in use. Maybe built to a price but works okay.

Amazing flexibility
I'm not massively into photography, but I have a Nikon Coolpix P500 bridge camera as well as a couple of LED Light blocks, and I like to play around from time to time. The lack of a remote shutter on the camera means that if I'm wanting to do something which requires a steady hand I need to use the timer, however sometimes even a timer with a steady-ish hand isn't the best... so having this Tarion Magic Arm Super Clamp is an essential accessory for me. There were no instructions, but it didn't take too long to figure it out. There's clamp which you can attach to a desk, or a pole, and then an arm which you attach to a camera (or light block). There is a tightening clamp in the middle which not only locks the arm's vertical movement, but also the joint on the desk clamp and the camera - a very clever mechanism that nearly bested me!! The whole unit seems to be of very high quality and very well built. I've been using this a little over a week now, and it's allowed me a bit more freedom and a bit more precision when trying to take product photos of things to sell on eBay (having a bit of a clear out, and this has actually helped a lot). Very highly recommended.
