Ice Ice Baby!
This is an amazing film - and a jam-packed DVD - worth it just for the features alone.Sid, a wise-guy ground sloth, Manfred, a stubborn and gloomy mammoth, and Diego, a cunning sabre-tooth tiger, are thrown together in a quest to return a human baby to its parents before the rest of Diego's chums decide to turn it into a cold snack between meals. The story weaves its way across a landscape of snow, ice, and the odd volcano, and through a great cave, before reunion with the human "herd" in a touching finale. The action is seen from the animals' point of view, which means the tables have turned on us humans - they are depicted as mute animals, and it is the non-human creatures that are the sentient world. The way the story is constructed is a streak of genius - instead of one straight story, the main plot is more a glue holding together a road movie that encounters many different tribes - the "tae-kwon dodos" (the equivalent of modern millenarians hoarding three melons for a long haul underneath the ground away from the ice), the bickering aardvarks, the lumbering mammoths, and - of course - the Scrat, a "sabre-toothed squirrel", fighting to save his nuts from the depredations of the environment. These little vignettes mean that the film is never dull, and scenes from the cutting room floor explore Sid's love-life, philandering, and the sabre-tooth tigers' own posturing. The extras include a mini-adventure in which Scrat is postulated as a prime mover in plate tectonics, Sid provides his own commentary, a wonderful commentary with the American and Brazilian production team (which is included in the deleted scenes section as well) and - unmissable - an extensive "behind the scenes" section with documentary footage and a demonstration of animation building, from storyboards through modelling to the finished product, taking full advantage of DVD wizardry so that you could be forgiven for spending the whole night - which I almost did - exploring the multiplicity of interesting things tucked away - not so much an Easter Egg as an entire chocolate factory.Perhaps one of the greatest animated films since Disney released "Snow White" and appealing to all ages (indeed, they had to tone Sid down a bit to get approval as a children's film!)

A beautiful film
A wonderful film that's both laugh-out-loud funny and incrediby touching. Without being twee or sugary, it tells the beautiful story an odd little disfunctional group that becomes a loving family, brilliantly demonstrating how the bonds of love and friendship and loyalty can help us get through anything. It's a must-see for anyone, but can't help feeling it might be especially helpful to any of us who come from more 'unusual' families/backgrounds. In that respect, it reminds me of the equally wonderful Australian road movie Priscilla Queen of the Desert (don't laugh at that until you've watched them both). Both films share the same messages about how the families we 'make' can be just as important as the families we are born into.Wonderful for children and adults, this is one of the best cartoons I've ever seen.

Fun at the dawn of time
Ice age is the story of 3 misfits, Manny the Mamoth, Sid the Sloth and Diego the Saber Tooth Tiger. After finding a baby abondoned in the snow, Manny and Sid journey to return the child to his family before the snow closes in for the winter. They are accomonied by a scheming Diego who wants to steal the baby to give to his pack. The 3 unlikely companions encouter a number of other prehistoric creatures and adventures on the way providing lots of laughs and some heartwarming moments. The film is easy watching and alwayss makes me smile.

An Ice age short.
Egg-scapade only last 23 minutes but it is a good story & will keep your kids happy if there is only half an hour before they have to do something else. The Special Feature are plentiful & last longer than the main movie with lots of mini movies.Well worth the price.

Wonderful cartoon
Everything about this is quality . The cast is superb, their voices really fit well with their characters and they make them hugely likeable. The graphics are spot on right down to the minute cracks in the ice. The story itself is fairly simple but well told and it's just great entertainment for all the family. The extras on the blu-ray disc will keep you amused on their own. The "out-takes" are a hoot. Scrat, a "minor" character is just a brilliant conception. Enjoy.

Slalom Baby, slalom!
Fazit: Unbedingt ansehen. Dieser Film ist jede Sekunde wert. Große Gefühle in einem kultigen Streifen verpackt. Also heißt es: Wo ist das Baby?
