Nice 4K
The movie always gets top marks from me. The 4K remaster looks fantastic, and the addition of hdr really adds a lot to the feel I think. Both disk, the 4K and the regular Bluray both came with light scratches out of the box. It doesn’t seem to impact playback at all, but it’s not something I expect to see on a brand new movie.

What lingered after them was not life, but the most trivial list of mundane facts
A beautiful and definitive version of an excellent movie finally is here. Previously I had owned the DVD version which there was no issues with it, with a new transfer into 4K there is a bump in quality even if it's not necessarily one to have needed it to begin with only coming out in 1999.Even though I did not read the book until after seeing this, it's great that it sticks close to the source material, only cutting away some minor things that don't detract from the original by any means. What I love most is how well it compliments the book, I can still separate the two but it's nice to have the movie to put you in the 70's time period set in. The soundtrack alone done by Air, gives it a whole extra layer most movies don't have. It's haunting and really is a defining aspect that would lose something had it been a more generic score. With this release you get 4K, though I do not have the proper TV to utilize that it still noticeably improved, the colors and art direction have always stood out here and only has gotten better. The sound mixing is brilliant as before, especially with how much presence the Air score takes and other songs of the era play into the scenes.Bonus features have all the old ones plus a few new short interviews. I would have liked to see a more complete retrospective with the entire cast, but at least having Sofia and Josh are interesting to watch. Her first short film was a nice addition as I never heard or seen it prior to this. There are a ton of promotional photos from the time if you just do a simple search that are just fantastic, would have loved to see a photo gallery of all of them. Otherwise what's here is good and hard to imagine what other features could have been added. The packaging is class too, I like the image they chose for the cover instead of focusing on Kirsten Dunst as the face of the film. Booklet insert has a short essay and general info, welcomed addition. There's next to nothing negative I can say about this film, it may seem simple but it's a joy to watch even with the depressing matter of suicide at hand, it's able to pull you in especially when all the acting is good. No annoying characters or scenes that I dread upon new viewings. Having read and seen both I certainly love the book more for the added details, but it's a wonderful companion to that when you want to absorb the story and all this version has to offer.

One of the best films of the 90s
Sofia really hit it out of the park with her debut and it’s nice to see this on blu ray. Looks great and has special features. The soundtrack by the French band Air is one of my favorites. If only Sofia kept making films of this caliber. After lost in translation it was all downhill. She will always live in Francis’ shadow.

THE VIRGIN SUICIDES - The Criterion Collection #920 - Blu-Ray Edition
I was in my early twenties when this movie originally came out, but for some reason I missed it. Probably because I was a young mother of one and just too busy for much movie watching. So when I saw this title being released on Blu-Ray as part of The Criterion Collection, I thought I'd give it the time I didn't have almost twenty years ago. And while I did not love it as much as all the previous reviewers seemed to, I definitely liked it. Although extremely tragic and haunting, it's also a very powerful and poignant tale and one I'm not likely to soon forget. There was also a stellar cast as well as narration by Giovanni Ribisi (Sneaky Pete) whom I'm a huge fan of. As for the picture and sound quality, they were beautifully delivered and wonderful on both the eyes and ears... but I'd expect no less of Criterion.I've uploaded a few photos that show the front, back, and inside of the movie, for those who are interested and want to take a look at what all they're getting before actually purchasing. I hope its helpful =)

70s Teen Angst
This is a pretty good Directorial debut from Sophia Coppola. I love the color palette of this film. This is a genuine portrayal of a middle class American neighborhood of the 1970s (at least to my eyes). All of the kids gave decent to good performances. And there's no denying the film's soundtrack. It's a mix of classic songs of that decade. I would totally recommend this to almost anybody i know.

The movie will leave a lasting impressive feeling for days.
Based on a true story from first novel of the suicides of the five Lisbon sisters in the 1970s suburban setting through ethereal cinematography, as told through collective memory of a group of men who were boys at the time and still yearn what happened. Director Sofia Coppola's great director feature good acting extras on blue ray 1970 cars music by air.

Sofia Coppola makes a splash with her directorial debut!
She chooses visual poetry over violence and gore. How Coppola chooses to tell the story visually and through dialogue makes the film intimate and quiet. The cinematography, natural lighting, and teenage girl femininity bring out the authenticity and beauty of this tragic coming of age story. I'd give it an 83%
