KiddeSmoke Detector, 10-Year Battery Powered, LED Warning Light Indicators

Great "set and forget" smoke detector. The only detail missing in the instructions is the installation of the drywall anchors. Most folks are familiar with these, however. I usually drill a hole that's too small initially, and slowly enlarge it until the anchors fit snuggly. If you start out with holes that are too big, well, the detector will hide your mistake for the next 10 years.

Product as advertised. Reasonable shipping time. I have used Kidde products before and am satisfied with them.

for the most part this smoke detector is great I did however have a little trouble installing it but I did in the end get it installed on my ceiling I have NOT experienced any false alarms I test it once per month and it works great just be sure to make a note of its date of manufacture (listed on the back) and the date you installed it as it has a ten year life before it MUST be replaced this is true of all smoke detectors I have owned over the years

Just installed it, so can't comment as to whether it functions as intended, but whoever designed the mounting bracket was either incompetent or a sociopath. Bought this 20SD10 model to replace a Kidde i12060A that lasted 10 months (not years) before it started chirping randomly in the middle of the night, even with a fresh battery. The mounting plate for the prior model does not work with this unit. Perhaps there is a good reason for it. HOWEVER, the holes for the mounting plate are at a different distance from each other than with the prior plate, AND a different distance than the standard ceiling receptacle. Moreover plates like this typically have a larger hole that fits over the head of a bolt that has been slightly unscrewed and can then be twisted so that the bolt can be tightened. This eases installation. This plate requires both bolts to be entirely unscrewed (not a trivial task with a ten-foot ceiling while on a ladder) and then screwed in while the plate is obscuring the bolt holes. The ceiling receptacle has pre-drilled (actually molded) holes that are 2 and 3/4 inches apart and 3 and 1/4 inches apart, as did the prior 2 Kidde detectors. I was able to mount this off-center but wish the Kidde engineers had asked a builder or electrician what might work or at least made a standard mounting plate that fit their entire line of smoke detectors or maybe took a look at some of their prior designs. What could have been a 30 second replacement turned into nearly an hour.
