Practical Color Combinations: A Resource Book with Over 2500 Sample Color Schemes Review: Perfectly formatted, great resource! - This book is great! I'm so glad I found it. I use it for picking colors for my adult coloring books. It's really thick, has a lot of combos, and is really well put together. Each pallete consists of 9 different colors, with color names , and even descriptions of the colors, then from those 9 colors, five different combos are illustrated in 5 different ways. In 2,3, 4, and 5-color combos. It's genius! So presumably, all 9 colors "go together " and you pick which/how many to use together. So you feel like you're one the one doing the picking, but the choices are really narrowed down for you. I tend to get a little mind-boggled by all the choices sometimes.😵💫 Great job with this book! Review: Great for color palette ideas - Quick and easy resource for color palettes that features information on the colors themselves (including corresponding RGB and CMYK codes) and provides examples of the palettes in use.

Very helpful for adult coloring hobby
This book is extremely helpful for adult coloring hobbyists. The color combinations are beautiful and the simple explanations helped me understand why different colors go well together. I see my coloring pencil collection differently and have been able to make the most of it along with my coloring books in a way I was not able to before.

An emotionally engaging and beautiful color scheme book, one of the best.
November 2021 UPDATE: I still love this book, and I'm sad to see that it may have gone out of print in English. To anyone looking here, I strongly advise you to try two books by Teruko Sakurai instead: Modern Colors of Japan and Traditional Colors of Japan, part of her 3 book Japanese Color Harmony Dictionary series (the third book, of colors around the world, hasn't been translated to English yet). ORIGINAL REVIEW: This book is everything I hoped for and more. If you like color scheme books, this is one of the most thorough and detailed I've seen, with information for every single color used, a good reference photo for each scheme, literary, music, art, and other references, RGB and CMYK information for each, beautifully presented in a comfortably compact size. The book is divided into nine emotional categories, including cute, energetic, relaxing, elegant, natural, traditional, exotic, mysterious and simple. There are color and keyword indices. I have used and loved Kuno's Colorscape book for years. This newer book takes things many steps beyond where that book did, giving a clear impression for every color scheme. I use these as inspiration for my artwork. I plan to read this new book from cover to cover. It's that good. PS: The book jacket has the words "COLOR ARRANGEMENT RESOURCE BOOK" wrapped around it in an abstracted font. I was so puzzled about what it said because there is no image of the back and spine online.

Bought a 2nd one
My daughter's an artist and I make jewelry, so I actually bought one for us to share so we could teach ourselves a little more about what colors work together. She took it to college with her, so I had to buy myself another. It's very handy for figuring out which of my jaspers and agates can be set and then strung with which gemstone beads, so if there's a mix of colors, it's done in a way that's harmonious, even if I'm going for a random effect.

Excellent!!!!
Best book I could have purchased for color palettes! Not only does it do exactly what I wanted (provide me with color schemes galore), it does so in a very user-friendly manner that provides me with so much inspiration for the project at hand. My coloring pages have never looked so good and the improvement is 100% due to this gorgeous little book. It is the definitive encyclopedia of color palettes and I feel so incredibly lucky to have this little gem on my coloring desk.

not sure of this book
The book does present color combinations based of photographs. It is not based on the color wheel. The color groups consist of a whopping 10 colors. They are based on photos. One of the photos is of a gumball machine. The color palette presented is all the random colors of the gumballs. So it is basically a "palette" of 10 primary colors. This palette is not useful. Other photos are of random things in random settings which give me random colors all grouped together. There are a few pages in the back that discuss color theory and definition of color terms. There are a few pages that talk about cultural color groups that is a bit interesting. Otherwise, I am not sure I can apply this book to my artwork. The color palettes presented are not cohesive enough. I could do the same thing by taking colored cards and tossing them in the air, then picking up 10 of them off the floor.

Non è interessante!Come manuale serve poco. Assolutamente migliore e bella grafica " A DICTIONARY OF COLOR COMBINATIONS"

you should know that the colour samples are really small, like about an inch square. not really what i was looking for but ok. good quality book, though. more for graphic design and digital work, than colour palettes for a painting

This little book is just brilliant, with so many colour combination ideas. I don't think I will ever have problems with deciding which colours to use together again. These combinations can be applied to all areas of life - crafts, fashion, interior design. Highly recommend.
