Beastly piece of hardware! (Updated)
I used this 40w laser module to upgrade my 20w Genmitsu L8 Laser cutter/engraver. It's a beefy brick of metal, larger and heavier than the 20w module, and is a simple drop-in swap. It cuts like a phaser weapon. It should though for $600.00. That's half the price of an entire L8 20w system. It comes with a 24v 10a power supply to replace the original 24v 6a supply because of the greater current draw of the larger module. There are no instructions for installation although it's obvious how. It took me about 10 minutes to do it. That said it's not obvious that you have to unscrew and move the Y axis limit switch stop pin inside the front left corner because of the larger 40w frame otherwise there will be a collision upon power up. Also note that this larger module's cooling fans are considerably louder than the 20w. Unfortunately, the module I just received has a defective air sensor and thus can't display the presence of air assist pressure. The light never changes to green from red. I'm trying to get a replacement but apparently can't do so through Amazon. I'm going to try through Sainsmart directly. I'll update if I get a response. UPDATE: Amazon did agree to send me a replacement laser module after all. I'll not need it since, while waiting for it's arrival, Jamie at Sainsmart reached out to me and provided an immediate solution to my problem. Epic operator error 🥴 was the diagnosis. When the machine powers up the air flow sensor is calibrated. If there is air flowing at that moment the sensor sets that as the bottom reading and naturally can't indicate anything higher. (Version 1.1 of the operation manual should probably provide this tip.) I was turning on the machine with the air assist pump already running and thus no green indicator on the module. Great +1 for Jamie immediately recognizing that issue. Five stars across the board now!
