Classic Human Anatomy: The Artist's Guide to Form, Function, and Movement : Winslow, V: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Superb book - Finally I have found the artists' anatomy book I've been looking for - it is far more detailed than the other two I have and incredibly comprehensive - someone's really gone the extra mile and put a lot of work into this. Fantastic image quality a good few whole page and half page images, thorough explanations of how joints work etc, actual coaching on how to draw the different parts of the body (as opposed to just pretty pictures to copy), comparison of body parts to things like spanners (i.e. useful analogies to items that are easier to draw). This really is a superb book - if you are in two minds then take the plunge - you won't regret it. Gush. Review: and still love it. So many anatomy books I've encountered over ... - I've had this book for years now, and still love it. So many anatomy books I've encountered over the years (and there's been many - I'm a former art student) are just plain boring to look at, unappealing and filled with unclear language. This one is beautifully and clearly laid out, with really lovely drawings and great explanations. It's a nice big book, too - that part at least is a personal thing, I think; I much prefer a large format for reference.

Good reference book
I did an online anatomy for artists course and wanted a reference book to continue learning from. The book is well structured and comprehensive, just what I needed.

This is THE Book!
This book has, litteraly, almost everything you need to know, when it comes to obtaining knowledge on anatomy for sculpting! Bones, muscles, attachments, movements, surface forms, differences between male and female, lean, obese and intermediate body types, are all there, beautifuly explained and illustrated! So glad i had the chance to get a new copy! It is, also, nicely complemented with Mrs Winslow's Anatomy In Motion book!

A skill worth learning
I bought this in order to work on my figurative drawing. My art teacher had suggested an anatomy book for artists and I went through your selection and decided on this one as it looked thorough and straightforward without gimmicks, and was reasonably priced. It is a very detailed book. The drawings are exactly what was required, showing bones and muscles in good clear line drawings. The text is also well written and informative. Anatomy which used to be a required subject for artists has been gradually phased away, but for figurative work it is useful, and used to be considered vital, to understand the underlying structure of the body, whether drawing it in movement or as a portrait. My only criticism is that the author has not considered to include diagrams of the human infant and child showing the typical proportions etc at various stages ands ages: that would have been most helpful. However, I don't think I've seen this anywhere in an artists anatomy book, only specialist books on drawing children.

By far the best anatomy book for artists. I used this and her other book for anatomy in movement for art school exams (3 years). These were the only books that I actually understood exactly how the muscles and bones work and look in order to improve figure drawing. This book is not dry or theoretical and has drawings of each muscle or bone by the author.

Very detailed, well illustrated, and extremely well written, this book is a must for anyone wanting to learn some anatomy to enhance their artistic experience. Couldn't ask for a better resource for anyone learning art. With easier to understand anatomical explanations and visually captivating yet also informative diagrams/images, this book truly encapsulated a complete anatomy learning experience while also appealing to any level of reader whether your a beginner or someone more experienced. Shipping from Amazon was also very fast and the book arrived in perfect condition!

Excellent and thorough resource for figure drawing artists. The book covers bone structure, muscle structure and proportions for the whole figure and then has subsections dealing with specific areas (arm, hand, torso, leg, foot, etc). Provides tips and illustrations on how these structures can be interpreted for drawing. Well worth the purchase.
