Arcanis is back for D&D 5th Edition
Paradigm Concepts reworked (and expanded) their old Forged in Magic book to update it from the old days of the 3rd Edition D&D to bring it into into the 5th Edition of D&D. Its just over 200 pages. And filled with a variety of magic items for your campaign. And the fluff of the items descriptions also serves as a nifty set of easter eggs to old arcanis veterans ... and bootleg history lessons of the (multiple award winning) Arcanis setting. It also creates a set of rules for runes, and a variant of warlocks (the Ehtzarta) who craft fetishes.Alright. I admit, this is not an absolutely "MUST HAVE" item. You can be perfectly happy running your own campaigns in or out of the world of Arcanis without this book. But even if you don't know it yet, you probably WANT this book. The fluff text that accompanies each item not only convey a lot of world history, but they imply a lot of potential plot hooks and adventure seeds. Menisis val'Tensen's legendary cloak "Glory," Staves of the Myrantian Necromancer Lords, Kelisar the Serpent-Eater ... the only thing I see missing is the blasphemous Robe of Eyes from the Cult of the 1000 Eyed Man (and really any sane PCs should just say no ... the Hand and Eeye of Vecna is probably safer). Lots and lots of good stuff. The book is a little pricey. But the quality is really high. I'm serious. I'm not a guy who usually notices things book binding and paper quality. But the pages are really thick and binding is top notch. I got to talk with Henry Lopez, one of the authors, last year at Origins and mentioned that. He told he he had hunted for a new printer after problems with their old one. As I recall the he basically said the page weight is one step down from coffee table/art books. I don't really remember the numbers but I think the paper weight is the term used to measure page thickness ... and a skimpy paperback might be at 55lbs, a normal/high end RPG book might be at at 70lbs (maybe like the PHB) and the guys PCI used had an option for 87lb which is what they used for this book. Don't quote me on those exact numbers...but you get the idea. I'm pretty sure you will also notice its a cut above average.. Long story short: you can lug this around back and forth to as many conventions as you want and its never ever going to fall apart on you.I suppose I should mention the art. There is a lot of it! And its all pretty good! While I like some images and artists more than others, nothing in there screamed clunker at me. Its all done by professional artists and looks good on the page. I've always believed Arcanis has been lucky to get a lot of art from a guy called Pat Loyboko and there are a number of his drawing in the book that are all superb. A few drawing have been recycled from older PCI works (like the fight with the dwarf garroting an Il'Huan on page 46) but images are new. My new favorite in the book comes on page 18 showing the arcane smackdown between a Coryani Battle Mage and an Ymandrake in Spellweaver Armor.I couldn't ask for more. Well except maybe for that cursed Robe of Eyes ... but NOBODY with any sense wants to wear that. Go check it out!

A magnificent update of an already amazing book.
Arcanis: Forged in Magic is a tome full of incredible magical items, each with their own unique story, that provide a glimpse into a rich and vibrant campaign world on par with that of Faerun, Greyhawk or Eberron. This book was a fantastic 3rd edition supplement, providing countless hours of entertainment in various forms to my group. The artwork in this 5th edition update is all new and in color, updating the indispensable resource into a vibrant and rich rebirth, perfect for the current edition of the World's Most Famous Role Playing Game. Whether you play Pathfinder, Dungeons and Dragons or some other game, Forged in Magic provides a host of magic items and captivating stories for each of them. The rules might be 5e, but the book is fantastic for any game.

Great book for any DM, even if not playing Arcanis!
This book contains hundreds of new items that can be used in not only Arcanis, but in other 5e campaigns. Each entry is split into 3 sections: description of the item, game rules, and how it fits into the Arcanis setting. Because of this, it is easy to take any or all of the information you want for your own games! Also, the art in this book is great, at least as good as anything that even WotC puts out. It is simply a beautiful product to look at, let alone use.I highly recommend thid book to any DM looking to flesh out a campaign, and any lover of the Arcanis setting for pages of new flavour text. In such a deep setting as this, this flavour is ine of thr best parts!

Love all of the stories
Not only do you have tons of magic items, but you also have history behind each items. They also introduce new categories of items: fetishes, which provide a small bonus, and runes, which may be added to mundane items to provide them with powers.

this book makes a great Gaming Coffee Table book simply because of the artwork ...
Again and absolutely stunning book form the guys at paradigm. Containing hundreds of magic items for use in your 5th ed campaign, most with their own history and flavor. Even if you don't play much 5th ed, this book makes a great Gaming Coffee Table book simply because of the artwork included.A good addition to one's collection.
