Gave me peace of mind for my plants during travel! Reliable, effective.
I am a serious plant person. I ordered these after a terrible event where I had several plants to die while in the care of my sweet (but black thumb) neighbor when I went traveling for a couple weeks. These were recommended to me from another plant loving friend, and I cannot say enough good things about them. Basically, these watering stakes create a siphon/suction from a separate vessel that you fill with water to allow your plants to water themselves! Ensuring that they get what they need on their own!I recommend using these ahead of time so you can get the hang of your plants' watering needs if you're not completely sure what their needs are. Here's basically how you start your set up: you start by uncapping and soaking the spike well in water (I'd say at least a half hour), then fill the spike with water, put the green cap back on, put the spike into your plant, and put the hose end into a vessel containing enough water to feed your plant for however long you'll be gone. Here's the kicker: if you put the plant low and the water vessel high, it will heavily water your plant (gravity feed). If you put the plant high and the vessel low, it will very lightly water your plant. If they're at the same level it's a medium water feed. You get the idea- You kind of need to know whether your plant needs a little or a lot of water so you can auto feed it at that level. The instructions that are included are great, and help you to troubleshoot if the spike isn't working correctly (although I've never had any issue). Essentially there's a little bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, you'll be SO GLAD you did because your plant will be able to keep itself happy even while you're gone!!! I'd hesitate to use this as your only watering method if you haven't tried it ahead of time (and are leaving town), but also keep in mind that I'm super paranoid and I have some pretty picky and high maintenance plants. Once I got the idea of how to work the system for my specific plants, it works like a DREAM and I can now travel without worrying about my precious green babies. These are GREAT. I highly recommend these!PS Disregard the fact that I'm propagating a plant in my water vessel. I don't do that when I leave town, I just hadn't gotten around to potting it yet. Also I use the spike all the time for my the few of my plants that prefer constant/consistent moisture- it prevents me from having to mist them or lightly water frequently. Basically it makes my higher maintenance plants more low maintenance! Yay!

There are precise & detailed instructions for affective watering process
I Followed instructions very carefully; plant survived but I’m not sure the watering system worked because the plant received rain.

These actually work
These actually work. I just need a larger and more shallow bowl to hold water while on vacation. My spider plants and herb pots did great.

Water will continue to filter into your plsnts whether they need it or not.
The idea is great - and the watering works if you don't mind a watery mess under your plants. To avoid this problem use only outside where the ground can absorb the excess.

Seem to work good, we will see if they keep my plants alive while I am gone.
Not sure how these coompare to the namebrand spikes but these worked fine in my test environment and dripped about 1/2L in 24 hours in my setup, this should be enough to keep my plants watered while I am on vacation. Hopefully so! ***update***these worked great while I was away. For my purposes I used 2 spikes in each plant, with each connected to their own 2 liter bottle, for 4 liters total each plant. I watered my plants well before I left and I was gone for 12 days. When I came back the water was gone from the bottles. The plants were well watered but not over watered and everything looked good. Very satisfied.

Plants were DRENCHED!!!
I’m happy I tested this product before I left for vacation today for two weeks. I read reviews for ideas to see if it really worked.I purchased 3 boxes since each box contains 5. I have 15-20 plants.I watered my plants in excess in hopes the system “knew” there was water in the pots like I read in one review. I also bought a 4 gallon buckets since I am going away for two weeks like another reviewer suggested. I put a piece of masking tape on the bucket where the water was filled. I left for an hour. Came back and my carpet was soaked. The bucket had lost about two inches of water.I do not recommend this product.

Work great but are really fragile.
These definitely do the task that they were designed for but they break so easily. Makes it a bit frustrating because I tend to have butterfingers and drop things a lot. But if you are not a klutz like me, they are a great price for their utility.

They work but must keep a standing water source nearby
These are really great watering spikes. I didn't really know what to expect with them, but they work. You place these in a bucket of water to get all the air out and fill all space with water. Then you put the spike in the plant soil you want watered and the tube end in a standing body of water. This creates a syphon to pull water from standing water into the soil as water moves from the porous spike into the soil.I didn't measure the tube length but they are pretty long. With this one pack you can autowater 5 different plants with one body of water so long as the tubes reach. You just put more water in the bucket or whatever your water is in instead of having to water each individual plant. Very easy.
