highly readable and great info
So much good information in here, complete with pictures and diagrams. Very technical, but explains the details well enough for even me to understand. This is my go-to manual for my 1911, for sure.

Unbelievable reference
I have had a 40+ year love affair with the 1911-A1 .45 ACP pistol. This reference is essential for anyone desiring to further their knowledge of the 1911 platform with the intent of upgrading their own pistol. There is a ton of great, detailed information in this work. The pictures are clear and crisp, which is a great help when you are trying to upgrade Mr. Browning's wonderful invention. One word of caution: DO NOT order this book for a Kindle. My Kindle does not repo pictures well, so having a printed version of this book greatly improves the usefulness of this reference work.

Graduate level textbook for 1911 - Read Volume One first
Volume One is a must-read if one is at all interested in 1911 pistols. Volume Two, as its title indicates, is directed to one who is going to buy a 1911 frame and 1911 parts and assemble same. In my opinion, few will actually follow that arduous path. However, a study of the instructions to do so, and the information contained in many, excellent pictures, will provide a graduate-degree of understanding of the very old design. John Browning was a genius, but he sure was not an engineer. Far too much hand fitting is needed vs. the actual interchangeable parts of a Glock or an M1. Critical part associations are not visible within the gun. One will deduce that the 1911 continues because it can be caused to have an almost ideal trigger action (with a lot of effort or a set of true drop-in-parts), a recoil action that can be adapted to the ammunition being used by changing a spring, and because it has an almost ideal grip angle. For Bullseye competition, it is king and this text book will disclose almost all that one needs to know. The one critical item not found is a clear discussion of the newer "adjustable for over travel" triggers and the associated newer grip safeties having non-classic lugs- mis-adjustment can cause full-automatic operation. Read and study Volume One first.

A Wealth of Information!
What can I say that hasn't been said? This book is an excellent companion to the 1911 Complete Owners Guide. Goes into more depth if you are wanting to either build or install custom parts on your 1911. If you want theory of operation and solid basic information on the 1911 firearm get the Complete Owners Guide. If you want more of a hands on handling of different areas of the gun and how to repair/customize it get this book. Both are well worth the money spent for any 1911 owner.

so far I like it!
I have a very old 1911 that I want to build into a reliable shooter. This book has lots of advice on how to go about doing just that. It seems to be no nonsense and straight forward. It is not a do all end all, if you want to know how to blue or how to nickle plate, or any other more advanced gunsmithing procedure this is not what you seek. But the info in it does reflect the honest opinion of some darn good gunsmiths and I respect their opinions. My project is coming along nicely thanks, blued frame and stainless slide with a match barrel...

first timer
as being a first time gun builder, i have found that this book took me from begining to end without any problems. this book explains everything a first timer need's. excellent book, details, photo's and tips were very helpful. even if a person, like me, who has no idea how to build a m1911 will find that you can take raw material and have a finished piece of work to be proud of. i had hoped to insert a photo of my finished 1911.
