This beehive kit is excellent quality. The wood is almost knot free and the boxes are easy to assemble. The hive kit is unpainted and untreated so the exterior needs to be painted or stained. The dove tail joints makes the boxes strong. The handles are large which is nice when lifting them while wearing gloves. The kit comes with some nails that are too short for the boxes. I recommend using wood screws for the boxes. The nails can be used for the frames. Some details to be noted are that the boxes are not pre-drilled and it is recommended to drill before nailing or using screws to prevent splitting. An other detail is that the plastic foundation is not pre-waxed, so it is necessary to apply beeswax to the foundation. The frames are well made an fit together without problems. Both frames and boxes should be glued with wood glue before nailing. The bottom board is made of solid wood, not plywood, which is great and makes it last longer. The inner cover does not have a notch, but that is easy to cut out if desired. One last thing to look for is that the image of the kit shows a 3 layer (3 bee boxes) hive, but you will receive only 2 boxes. The description says 2 layer hive, but it is somewhat confusing. This does not take away from the quality of the hive.

This was the least expensive beehive on Amazon when I ordered. The manufacturing of the parts was excellent! Everything fit together very well. One issue was the nails provided. They were too short to properly nail the hive bodies. You will definitely want to invest in a narrow crown stapler! Used 1-5/8" staples for the hive bodies and 1" for the frames. Worked great!

This beehive kit is currently the most affordable option for a few extra hives due to the increase in lumber. The quality isn’t top notch and you will find cracks, holes from knots etc but they are still functional and fixable. I don’t know if I would recommend these to a new beekeeper but if you have had hives for awhile it should be a no brainer for assembly. The hive comes with nails that are too short for the boxes and too big for the frames so they are basically useless which might cause frustration for a new beekeeper that might not have fasteners on hand. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the exterior parts of the hive appear to be cedar which should resist wear better than the standard pine. The joints while rough are fine to get the job done. These boxes are budget grade so just keep that in mind. The foundations come unwaxed so you will have to wax them which might not be good for new beekeepers that don’t have access to wax and without the wax the bees usually don’t like to draw on them or they draw funky comb so waxing is a must. For me these are minor inconveniences and I have the stuff to correct any issues so it is of good value for me. As long as the price stays low I will probably buy a few more because they are good for the price.

This is my first hive and I am very pleased. Everything fit together well and it was an enjoyable assembly project. This price was the best I could find anywhere, and the quality is very good as well.

This hive is very sturdy and strong and without glue. My husband put the entire hive (2 boxes, frames w/foundation, bottom board, and top cover) together in 1 hour. He used a hydraulic staple gun, small staples. It included an entrance reducer and a queen excluder. I am very happy with it and would it buy again if I need more boxes.

Wood starting splitting during assembly. Otherwise went together easily. Nails were not long enough and I had to find my own to use. I used wood glue as well so I was not as worried.

I have bought a lot of Hives in the past year, all from Amazon. This is by FAR the best one yet. So good that I ordered another one just to have. I would recommend to anyone.
