Can I give this six stars? It’s awesome!
This is an excellent stick box for repairing any N64 controller with a broken stick. I just put it into one of my old controllers that desperately needed repair (too much spinning it in circles during Mario Party back in the day, and if you ever played that game you’ll know what I mean). This stick feels perfect. Taught, comfortable, precise, and having the perfect tension. It’s also highly accurate. I’ve used it both on a regular N64 and to play the N64 app on the Nintendo Switch (via the Mayflash MF103 N64 to USB adapter). Everything works flawlessly. And the reason I want to give this a sixth star is because it shipped with a small magnetic screwdriver that is exactly the right size for taking apart N64 controllers. I cannot tell you how often I’ve used other products for various systems over the years, only to end up stripping screws because my Phillips head screwdrivers wasn’t a JIS (Japanese Industry Standard) cross screwdriver (they look identical from above, but if you use Phillips instead of JIS on a Switch Pro Controller for example, you will immediately strip screws rather than open it). What’s great about this is that this cannot happen here because they included the right product. I don’t know what kind of screw the N64 uses, but it doesn’t matter because this screwdriver fit perfectly and stripped nothing. I am planning to buy more of these to fix the rest of my controllers. So I can’t really give it a better endorsement than that. The last thing I will say is that if you are nervous about whether you can do a controller repair, do not worry. The N64 controller is far easier to repair than later controllers. The stick box is an integrated unit that connects with a cable. There is zero soldering like in a newer controllers. If you can handle a screwdriver, you can install this! Pictures: The pictures show the stickbox as it comes in the box, and then show it installed in a new controller. It has a slightly larger, more rubbery thumb pad, which feels a lot better than the original in my opinion, and does not affect gameplay.

THIS IS IT
This is exactly what I was looking for. Perfect feel, solid design, and a perfect drop-in replacement. I'd argue that they are vastly better than the standard N64 designs. Not just from the hall-effect drifting issue (goodbye loose joysticks) but the gamecube-like rubber top as well. I forsee these lasting faaaar longer than the original ones did (RIP). P.S. Between these and the Hyperkin ones. GET THESE!!!! The hyperkin ones feel like utter cheap garbage comparatively. Tried both. Those one were light and floaty, cheap, and for some reason had limited range with in-game movement like they were calibrated wrong from the factory. Conversely, these 8BitDo sticks are absolutely perfect. Save yourself the headache and spend the extra $5 on these. Trust me, it's worth every penny and more.

A must for any N64 owner.
The stick is overall Excellent and a must upgrade for anyone who plays the N64. It does take a bit to get used to since it is a bit more sensitive, but it's overall an amazing upgrade from a stock stick. With the stick I gave it the ultimate test run and used it for F-zero X. A game infamous for requiring the accuracy of the N64. Was able to beat master cup with all the base tracks no issue. Granted I've played this game for ages, but given the accuracy needed for the game, I feel like this proves how good of a stick it is. So if your n64 stick is wobbly and about to go out. Go ahead and get this. It's easy to install with the right screws and takes less then 20 minutes for a first timer.

It’s a very welcome upgrade to an original Nintendo 64 controller.
I am highly satisfied with all 8BitDo products, having owned various controllers and adapters from the company. The N64 controller upgrade is particularly impressive. While some reviewers have noted that the upgraded joystick may not retain the original stick’s aesthetic and tactile feel, I find the resulting smoothness and precision to be more than satisfactory. While some may find the joystick’s sensitivity excessive, I have not encountered any issues during gameplay. I have successfully tested the controller with both Goldeneye and Turok, and there have been no problems. The installation process is straightforward and comes with a screwdriver and detailed instructions for those who are new to the controller and may not be familiar with its internal components. I highly recommend this upgrade to anyone looking to enhance their N64 gaming experience.

Great replacement, just a tad sensitive.
I like these hall-effect joy sticks from 8BitDo. Very solid feeling and perform well. Just a tad sensitive when it comes to fine, incremental aiming in a game like GoldenEye. Fair price and fair expectations.

A bit sensitive but good overall
They’re a bit sensitive compared to the original but still well worth the upgrade i bought 4 and redid all my controllers. Easy install too took about 5-10 min to do each just a screwdriver and some patience

Revitalised my controller
Works like a charm and is much more comfortable to use that a stock stick.

Seriously great
I normally wait longer to review, but given that I have 3 8BitDo controllers that have all lasted years (2 of them are from 2016) and are such good quality I don't have any concerns that this will be any different. I bought one of these to replace my very old very tired N64 controller's joystick. It's SO much better. To me it's better than the original. It takes way less force to move and is much more comfortable both because there is less force fighting my thumb and with rubber on this vs the hard plastic on the original. Movement feels very good and very accurate. It definitely both feels different and plays different given the different dead zone size so if you are used to playing games that take a specific amount of pressure to move at specific speeds within the analog range such as aiming in an FPS I imagine it might take some getting used to. I will definitely be buying 3 more to refresh all my original controllers.

Amazing and simple drop-in replacement! Even comes with a screwdriver! The stick feels perfectly smooth and less clunky than an OEM stick. Highly recommended.

I consider this control stick a very significant upgrade. It offers a very similar performance to an original control stick (accurate in other words.) It is much safer to use for the Mario Party mini games than the original. It is so well made that I think it will outlive the rest of the buttons by many decades so long as you keep the control stick clean. It feels like a softer GameCube stick and can also be clicked in like one as well.

This is a great stick replacement specially for the price. Gives a more gamecube-like feel to the controller and very easy to install. Didn't need any tools other than the screwdriver provided along with instructions You should be capable of even speed running most games with this stick although I do find it could be a little too sensitive for some people's liking. But it's perfect for games that require a lot of stick movement and won't kill your fingers like Mario party. Anyway at worst if you don't like it it's very easy to swap back to the original and you can use this to restore a decaying controller that a friend or brother can use

when holding in notches the stick moves around by itself to the point of changing my angle when speedrunning games. Probably ok for casual use but awful for anything where some level of precision is required. Refunded.
