The disco of Phaistos is an artefact from the Bronze Age and was found in a palace system on Crete. A round clay disc attached in a spiral shape shows various human, animal and plant motifs with religious texts. Probably the discus is an anthem to Astarte, the goddess of love. Words as mentioned on the disc have also been found on Minoan offerings.
The use of gold in the sacral field has a long tradition in all cultures. With its warm glow, it became a symbol of the sun, light, for durability and wisdom but also a symbol of status of wealth and superiority.
