Q: What is the value of the finished product if you were to buy it in a store (aka: is it worth the trouble)?

The value is in the challenge of the build and, if the effort and workmanship is the best that you can do the end product is like no other ukulele anywhere. If you don't like woodworking this isn't for you. I'm very happy with the one I created.

Q: Can this be built right or left handed?

You could build this for left handed playing, but you will want to slot the nut with nut slotting files during assembly instead of removing material from the bottom.
