Q: are all of the pieces interchangeable, specifically the metal applicators with the plastic bottles?

Yes, the tips fit both the large bottles as well as the syringes.

Q: Can they handle acetone? I have purchased others which the needle come off after a few hours of using acetone. Thanks

I have not had any parts come off or warp while using them. However, i am using acrylic monomer and not acetone.

Q: Can these be used with powders?

Some of the nozzles might be large enough to handle graphite, but most powders might get stuck. It all depends on the particle size and how slippery. I would not use this for powder.

Q: Is it safe to put food or consumables in these bottles? I want to do detailed chocolate art.

I would inquire with the manufacturer, but do NOT just boil them to "sterilize" them. Immersing objects in boiling water is an emergency situation cleanliness method, but does not in fact sterilize the objects to FOOD grade standards. Medical grade standards are technically lower than food grade standards, and even they do not recommend immersion in boiling water as a method to sterilize medical instrument. I say this as a tattoo artist, who deals with blood borne pathogens in my work in the tattooing field. Autoclaves and pressure cooker sterilizers accomplish higher temperatures by using vacuum and pressure (respectively). Additionally, they use STEAM, not plain boiling water, and there is still a time period that must be adhered to. Finally, the boiling and higher temperatures will often melt plastics that are not designed to be boiled or sterilized. Don't risk your health or others'! Always err on the side of caution!
